  • 🚢HUB COLLABORATION: NEXANS AND CROWLEY WIND SERVICES 🚢 We are so excited to learn about the recent partnership between Hub Community Members Nexans and Crowley to develop and operate a Jones Act-compliant cable lay barge. 🔧This 300-foot U.S.-flagged barge will be crewed by American mariners operated by Crowley, to help lay and bury the subsea cables that bring power from offshore to the onshore grid. It’s the first barge to use vertical injectors and has advanced positioning systems to place cables accurately, even in difficult conditions. The barge has a 3,500-ton capacity carousel and is set to support Equinor’s Empire Wind project in New York and can also be used for other subsea applications. Don’t just hear it from us, here’s what some of the folks involved have to say about the collaboration: “This barge will support our existing fleet of cable laying vessels, the Nexans CLV Aurora, Nexans C/S Skagerrak and Nexans CLV Electra, and we are pleased to be working with Crowley on developing the capability to lay nearshore subsea cable in the U.S.,”  Pascal Radue, Executive VP, Nexans’ PWR-Transmission Business Group. “The cable lay barge will provide a productive supply chain solution for offshore energy, telecommunications, and other sectors…coupled with our U.S. maritime fleet and mariners providing feedering services and other logistics and project management capabilities, we could not be better equipped to serve the needs of industries seeking subsea cable solutions.”  - Graham Tyson, PE, Vice President of Operations, Crowley Wind Services 🔗Read more about the collaboration here: https://lnkd.in/eN5NqJH5 #innovation #development #network #collaboration #leaders #entrepreneurs #power #offshorewind #NYUTandonMade #UFLInnovatesforClimate #NYC #wind #OSW #windpower

  • 🪸EDUCATION & STARTUPS = TRANSFERRABLE SKILLS🪸 Last week we took part in NYSERDA’s Offshore Wind Academic Symposium, gathering representatives from across New York and academic institutions to share best practices on workforce development. An afternoon of knowledge sharing highlighted how: 🐥 Start educating future generations as early as possible. Planting a seed and opening eyes early will be rewarded tenfold later on when career paths are chosen. 📰 Outreach is central in reaching communities and future students. Investing in using social media to meet people where they are can be highly impactful. 🌉 Ensure strong connections to industry and be responsive to the evolving needs, so students experience immediate job success. Our Director, Tone Sondergaard took part in an enlightening panel together with Ana Fisyak, AICP from Equinor, Bolun Xu from Columbia University, Hector Rodriquez from Hudson Valley Community College James P. Spear ⚓️ from State University of New York Maritime College, and Subrina Oliver from O-High Technologies. Her central message being: “Internships with offshore wind startups are ideal playgrounds for student skill development, as it often entails lots of hands on experience and flexibility. More so, it is a win-win, giving entrepreneurs access to much needed talent and creative ideas”. 💡 Thank you to Jessica Dealy and Benjy Hansen-Bundy for organizing and New York City Economic Development Corporation for hosting us. 🙏👏

  • 🌊 ALUMNI COHORT FLUCTO WELCOMES NEWEST TEAM MEMBER 🌊 A few months ago, Marrina Jacka, a student at Colorado College, was exploring opportunities on the Urban Future Lab website when she discovered an exciting opening with Alumni Cohort member Flucto and decided to apply. 💡Fast forward to today, Marrina has been working alongside the Flucto team, contributing to offshore wind innovation by analyzing turbine tower-top motions using data collected from their advanced motion sensor detectors. Her analytical work has helped deepen the understanding of turbine behavior under dynamic offshore conditions. Building on her summer experience, Marrina is now writing her senior thesis, applying Euler-Bernoulli Beam Theory to derive the deflections of turbine towers, an impressive academic extension of her hands-on research with Flucto. 🎓💨 📸 Featured photos include a visit to the research vessel and a snapshot of Marrina touching the Bremen Town Musicians statue which is a local tradition said to bring good luck and ensure a return trip to Bremen! 🍀 #offshorewind #cleanenergy #renewable #windpower #sustainableenergy #innovation #startup #entrepreneurship #community  #NYC #NYUTandonMade #UFLInnovatesForClimate
