Open Philanthropy’s Technical AI Safety team is recruiting grantmakers to support research aimed at reducing catastrophic risks from advanced AI. We’re hiring at all levels of seniority. Our technical AI safety grantmaking has grown rapidly, from $40M in 2024 to being on track for over $130M in 2025 (separate from OP’s other AI safety grantmaking in AI governance and policy and capacity building). We plan to expand both the quality and quantity of our support in 2026 and need more specialists to help us achieve this. This is an opportunity to have an outsized influence on the field of technical AI safety. You'd likely be in charge of allocating tens of millions of dollars of high-impact research funding annually. Our AI Governance and Policy team is launching a new request for proposals! We’re seeking ideas for projects focused on evaluating AI capabilities — understanding what frontier systems can do. We're looking to fund work on more demanding evaluations, advancing evaluation science, and improving third-party model access and infrastructure. Anyone can apply, including those in academia, nonprofits, industry, or working independently. EOIs will be evaluated on a rolling basis. We’re making grants between $0.2M and $5M. Applications are open until April 1st — see the link for more information. https://lnkd.in/gNZX3ju8
