This is one we’ve been working on a for a while and it’s nice to announce it: virtual home label and retrofit plans for every home in Toronto, boosting engagement and action for more resilient and climate friendly homes… x 500,000! Thanks to the great people at the City of Toronto for their trust and partnership. Once the Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) Virtual Home Label standard is released we look forward to playing a leadership role in a growing, impactful sector streamlining the retrofit journey.
OPEN Technologies is bringing our Virtual Home Label to the City of Toronto! Homes and buildings account for 55% of Toronto’s greenhouse gas emissions. To achieve the city's ambitious TransformTO target of net-zero by 2040, over 400,000 homes will need energy-efficient upgrades. Our Virtual Home Label is designed to help unlock that potential. This tool will provide homeowners across the city with a free, personalized roadmap to understand their home’s energy and emissions performance—complete with realistic retrofit cost and payback estimates. By making decarbonization accessible and financially responsible, this initiative will serve as a public-facing front door to residential retrofits, complementing the City's fantastic BetterHomesTO programs. The tool will launch to the public in the coming months. Read the full announcement on our blog to learn more about how we are helping accelerate the pace of building retrofits: https://lnkd.in/ggndJ6X2

We are proud to see our own Donovan Woollard in Victoria today as part of this important delegation.
BREAKING: As BC gets hotter and smokier, thousands of residents are still living without adequate cooling. Today, a delegation of B.C. leaders is in Victoria with a solution informed by over 250 leaders from more than 100 organizations across the Province’s housing, finance, energy, and manufacturing sectors, and convened through Urban Climate Leadership’s #KeepItCool initiative over the last 18 months. The group is advancing a market-ready plan to retrofit 5,000 low-rise apartment buildings with energy-efficient heat pumps and turn heat traps into safe havens for over 175,000 residents. Saving lives. Saving money. And creating jobs. This is not just a climate response. It’s economic infrastructure. The plan is built. The partners are aligned. The opportunity is clear. What’s needed now is a provincial decision to move at scale. 🔗 Read the full announcement: https://lnkd.in/e6fxPvUb Shauna Sylvester Christy Pham Jamie Gray-Donald, PhD Bill Cunningham Betsy Agar George Patrick Richard Benson Melina Scholefield Lisa Westerhoff David Thompson 🇨🇦 Scott Sinclair Jordan Fisher Donovan Woollard Basma Majerbi SES Consulting Zero Emissions Innovation Centre (ZEIC) OPEN Technologies #KeepItCool #VictoriaBC #HeatPumps #EnergyEfficentCooling #MadeInBC #LowRiseBuildings #MURBS #EquitableClimateAction #Health #Savings #EnergyTransition

We are thrilled to be collaborating with the ReCover Initiative, helping them to identify, engage with and qualify buildings for deep retrofits across the region.
Happy Earth Day! It's also today where ReCover is announcing its partnership with OPEN Technologies to expand access to virtual building audits in Atlantic Canada! OPEN’s VDP virtual assessment tools offer a faster, lower‑cost way to understand a building’s retrofit potential compared to traditional energy audits, which often require on‑site investigation and higher upfront investment. This also marks the launch of OPEN’s VDP Data Lite — a rapid screening tool that highlights buildings with strong retrofit potential, from a more limited data set. By removing barriers to early-stage planning, more deep retrofit projects can move from exploration to action.
