As we mark 50 years in Hong Kong, we are reflecting on the moments that have shaped the city and its people. 💡 𝗔 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: Where marine ecosystems are restored, waste is minimised, and ambition is paired with responsibility for our environment. 💡 𝗔 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆: Where pro bono support helps entrepreneurs build a fairer world, and fragile ideas are given the strength to stand upright. 💡 𝗔𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆: Where Making Links Asia, the first of its kind programme in Asia, opens new paths into legal education, ensuring potential is recognised over circumstance. 💡𝗔 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱: Where refugees find dignity, migrant workers find clarity, and complex law is made simple and accessible to all. London International Disputes Week 2026 brought together leading practitioners and experts from across the globe to consider current issues affecting the disputes market. Linklaters had a fantastic time contributing to a range of sessions: ▪️ During our panel, M&A disputes in 2026: it’s all about value, we discussed how increasingly complex and contentious issues are arising after M&A deals have completed. Hearing lawyers, valuation experts and insurers debate these issues made clear just how common and consequential post‑closing disputes have become. ▪️ The panel on FSMA securities litigation featured a spirited defence of the existing regime and its restrictions, but also highlighted dissatisfaction about access to justice and the high hurdle for claimants. In any event, further clarity on the case for reform is unlikely until more cases proceed through the courts. ▪️ We all know that AI is having a seismic impact on our lives. The Algorithmic Relations panel brought to life that impact on some of the core foundations of our society, including open justice, responsible journalism and businesses’ ability to shape or resist certain narratives in a crisis. Few people may have considered how digital twins could be used, for example, to anticipate how judges or regulators might react to particular arguments, or that our future perception of case law and precedent might be shaped by bots. ▪️ In our When worlds collide panel, we explored the critical, and often underestimated, interplay between employment law, corporate crime, regulatory investigations and crisis communications, recognising that decisions made in one lane rarely stay there. Many thanks to all our speakers, panelists and attendees for their contributions, with special thanks to Linklaters speakers Rory Conway, David Thomas, Andrew Poulton, Rebecca Burton, Georgina Kon, Sinead Casey, Elly Proudlock and Clare McMullen.

7 June 2026 marked the transposition deadline for the EU Pay Transparency Directive (EUPTD). Yet only four Member States – Italy, Lithuania, Malta and Slovakia – have fully implemented it. The remaining countries are still progressing through implementation, leaving the compliance landscape fragmented and fast-evolving. A few things are now clear (or rather, clear for now): ⌛ The European Commission will not renegotiate or delay the EUPTD. The EUPTD will not be included in any omnibus simplification package or “stop-the-clock” measure. ⚖️ The absence of national implementing law does not remove exposure for employers. National courts are already expected to interpret domestic law consistently with the EUPTD. 📜 The four implemented regimes already differ materially from one another and should not be viewed as a blueprint for the rest of Europe. In our latest blog, our employment lawyers explore what this means in practice for employers operating across multiple jurisdictions. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/dtkdYuBG

Linklaters is proud to support Social Mobility Day. Thank you to Paul Lewis OBE for sharing his story as part of the #StoriesMatter campaign. We are committed to ensuring that personal background, social identity and socio-economic circumstances are not barriers to opportunity. Throughout the month our Social Mobility Network will be hosting events to share more stories and keep the conversation going.
The horror! Social Mobility Day is always a good excuse to post cringeworthy photos from the past. So I offer this one. Probably around 17. Suit from Gorseinon Market with a terrible paisley 1990s tie to match. Some sort of sports thing in my hand (love the fact that sports trophies for children in Wales comprised a beer tankard. That didn’t seem odd at the time). Pre-Oxford. Pre-Linklaters. Pre any form of appreciation of what to wear (some may say this has never changed…). I notice that I had gone double-breasted, without any knowledge that this was a (bad) thing. Plus it is fair to say the suit had sack type elements to it. And the background is prime rural Wales, miles from civilisation. The massive gas tank because we weren’t anywhere near mains. The washing on the line, no tumble dryer. And a dog. Happy Social Mobility Day everyone. Loved my childhood but it definitely didn’t prepare me for life in the City. I go back to the point that talent is distributed equally but opportunity is not. That’s why we spend so much time at Linklaters in different parts of the country making sure that children are aware of different routes and see that it might be for them. We recently marked 50 years in Hong Kong SAR with our clients and colleagues. Since opening our doors in 1976, we have had the privilege of working with clients on their most important mandates in the region from big-ticket M&A and complex restructurings to the biggest debt and equity financings as well as key litigation and arbitration. Celebrating our golden jubilee provided an unmissable opportunity to thank our clients, including those who have been with us since the very beginning. A big thank-you to all our clients, colleagues and communities who have been part of our story. It is these moments that matter - shaped by teamwork, ambition and commitment - that define our journey.
