Why should we still write code? That was today’s moonshot question during a brainstorm session about what we actually do as developers at Maxxton. Nino quickly sharpened it to: “When do we stop writing code?” Of course, everyone is already using AI tools. That’s not the discussion any more. Today was about the next step. What parts of the old development process are still worth holding on to? Where does it slow us down? Where do we fail more often than we’d like? And what actually makes this job fun? Is it typing code? Or is it the kick you get from building something that just works? This was a first step, with a small offline group in Middelburg, sketching out blueprints for the rest of the company. We’ve defined concrete actions and will regroup in two weeks. For now, we were focused on core development, but there's much more in scope. Think about analysis, requirements, quality control, etcetera. The developer role is changing fast. But honestly, it’s still one of the best jobs out there. Yes, I’m biased. Thanks to everyone who joined today. On to the next steps!

Enjoying the last bits of my jet lag but last week in San Francisco and Silicon Valley, together with a group of like-minded companies, was intense, inspiring and very timely. Conversations and visits at Google Cloud, AWS, NVIDIA, C3.ai, OpenAI, PromptDriven.ai, Cloudflare, Cursor and several others, reinforced a clear shift: the focus has moved from AI potential to pragmatic application. Especially in software development, the progress over just the past weeks has been quite shocking. The key takeaway for me is that differentiation no longer comes from access to models or tools, but from how deeply AI is embedded into your development lifecycle, data foundation and product strategy. For Maxxton Software, this is directly relevant. Our market needs domain-specific intelligence that delivers real operational value, not just generic AI features.
