When Katrina Carter saw her daughter's health decline, she knew she had to act. She learned about living kidney donation through her daughter's nephrologist, then got more information through the Mayo Clinic in Arizona transplant program and attended an informational class. Katrina wasn't a match for her daughter, so they chose a paired donation — where donors and recipients are matched across pairs, linking several together. "Saving a life through living kidney donation is extremely rewarding," says Katrina. She checked in for surgery at 3 a.m. on January 29, 2025 at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, nervous but ready to help.
