In this blog article, we highlight some of the latest and top research published across MDPI’s Open Access journals. First, we explore a feature paper which examines novel methods of wastewater treatment involving ozonation. We then see how researchers develop a new form of manufacturing a drug for alcohol use disorder which increases its photostability. Furthermore, we learn more about the gold standard for surgery of retroperitoneal sarcoma and efficient measures of patient outcomes. Lastly, we look at a new model developed by researchers from Norway that accurately forecasts road weather to potentially improve driver safety. Learn more: https://brnw.ch/21wU4Ia

Scientists from Australia who recently published in the Open Access journal Biology MDPI researched how climate change and habitat loss are affecting endangered lizards endemic to South Australia. The researchers compared the behavioural responses of three endangered pygmy bluetongue lizard populations to withstand different microclimates in South Australia. The chosen lizards were moved to a translocation site where their behaviour and environment were monitored and compared against wild pygmy bluetongue lizard populations. The researchers found that latitudinally varied lineages of pygmy blue-tongue lizards differed in their behavioural response to microclimatic variation. Moreover, they also found differences in behaviour between the translocated southern lineage lizards and the translocated northern lineage lizards. They concluded that more time is needed to allow the lizards to acclimate to a new environment. Read more here: https://brnw.ch/21wU4r2 #mdpi #openaccess #biology

MDPI Houston Summit 2025 — Uniting Minds in Academic and Editorial Excellence Last month on June 26–27th, MDPI hosted the #MDPIHoustonSummit at the Magnolia Hotel in Houston, Texas, welcoming over twenty editors, researchers, and academic leaders for two days of discussion, collaboration, and community building. The Houston Summit featured presentations on MDPI’s core values, our operations in North America, and looking ahead at the future of open access publishing. Highlights included in-depth presentations on the ethical use of AI in publishing, transparency in editorial workflows, society partnerships, and MDPI’s continued commitment to supporting research integrity and scholarly excellence. An open discussion session followed, providing a platform for engaging dialogue around peer review practices, our editorial process, and the evolving roles of editors in the publishing landscape. We were honoured to welcome experts from MDPI’s leadership team, including COO Alistair Freeland, Scientific Communications Specialist Dr. Ioana Craciun, Publications Ethics Assistant Renato Merki, Data Scientist Daniele Raimondi, and Head of Societies and Acquisition Dr. Carla Aloè. We extend our sincere gratitude to all panelists, including our guest speaker Prof. Dr. Orlando Auciello for sharing an insightful presentation. A heartfelt thank you to the esteemed editors whose attendance, thoughtful discussion, and collaboration made the #HoustonSummit a success. We look forward to carrying this inspiring series of Summits and Salons forward, connecting voices from around the globe to champion open access. 🌍 #MDPI #Houston #MDPIMoments #OpenAccess #AcademicPublishing #HoustonSummit #ScientificResearch #PeerReview #IOAP #MDPISummit

Symmetry is a concept that can be applied to a wide variety of fields, including physics, chemistry and computer sciences. As technologies continue to diversify in all fields, it’s important to utilise new concepts to think outside the box and create solutions to old theories. Recently, MDPI and the Open Access journal Symmetry MDPI hosted the 5th International Conference on Symmetry in Hangzhou, China. The conference was organised to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration among scholars, engineers, students, and professionals working in symmetry-related fields. In this article, we explore important research from one of the chairs of the event, Professor Sergei D. Odintsov, and 2 plenary speakers, Professor Dr Jiping Zhang and Professor Dr Ronggen Cai and how their use of symmetry led to groundbreaking discoveries.
