Clinical Supervisor Chelsea Golbek knows rural life well. She and her family farm 1,000 acres of wheat and raise cattle in Okarche, Oklahoma. At #MercyKingfisher, she brings that same commitment to her patients. “Keeping the mindset of 'how is this going to affect our community' is a must when working in the rural area.” She recently won the Light of Mercy award for being a "shining lamp" for others, as our foundress Catherine McAuley would say. Rural health care keeps care close to home where it matters most! #FacesofRuralHealthCare #RuralHealth #FacesofMercy

What happened on this day in 1831? Our founding! Today, we celebrate the legacy of Catherine McAuley and her companions, who, on December 12, 1831, established the Sisters of Mercy. With this sacred commitment, a new community was born, one devoted to a shared mission of compassionate care and exceptional service for the poor, the sick and the underserved. In a spirit of gratitude and remembrance, we pray: God of mercy, Today we celebrate Catherine McAuley and her brave companions whose bold “Yes” to You sparked a movement of Mercy that endures to this day. Thank You for their vision, boldness and grace, and thank You for all who continue to roll up their sleeves and live Mercy passionately each day. Help us to do our part in carrying this legacy forward, not just in words, but in action. Open our hearts to the needs around us. Give us the grace to serve with joy, advocate with courage and love with full hearts. May Mercy never be just a name on a building or a badge, but the way in which we live and serve each day, Amen.

In a world filled with conflict, chaos and uncertainty, peace can feel out of reach. Yet Advent reminds us that true peace is not the absence of trouble — it’s the presence of Christ. The Light has come, and with Him, peace that overcomes fear and darkness. As Isaiah proclaims: “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned” (Isaiah 9:2). This week, take comfort in the promise that Christ is with us — bringing calm to our hearts and hope to our world.

We’re excited to join forces with Wellvana to offer independent primary care physicians and advanced practice providers new opportunities to deliver high-quality, coordinated value-based care programs. This collaboration combines our leading population health infrastructure with Wellvana’s high-touch enablement platform to create one of the nation’s largest clinically integrated networks. The goal is simple: help independent providers, who are not employed by Mercy, better manage care across Medicare, Medicare Advantage and commercial insurance plans. Read more below.

Big changes in small hospitals often start with one person, like April Hansen! For 15 years, April has strengthened care in Missouri’s rural hospitals by building workflows and systems designed specifically for the unique needs of smaller facilities. From being a voice for Critical Access Hospital labs to launching the Mercy Swing Bed Collaborative to connect 18 of our facilities, April is bridging the gap between rural hospitals and larger health systems. This year, April was honored with the 2025 Missouri Rural Health Champion Award for her outstanding impact on rural health care across the state. Thank you, April, for making a big difference where it matters most! #FacesofRuralHealthCare #RuralHealth #FacesofMercy
