Our work on offline and online settings of RL from human feedback (RLHF) with KL-regularization —a widely used objective function in LLM alignment to human preferences— under the ϵ-local differential privacy (ϵ-LDP) model. We provide optimality by providing a matching lower bound in offline setting and logarithmic regret bounds in online setting. https://lnkd.in/dT9-DBpv with Yulian Wu, Rushil Thareja, Praneeth Vepakomma and Francesco Orabona MBZUAI (Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence), KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology), MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS), MIT Schwarzman College of Computing

Through our education partnership with UTEC - Universidad Tecnológica, over 100 learners in Uruguay now hold the MIT MicroMasters Program in Statistics and Data Science credential. In addition to in-demand skills in #datascience and #machinelearning, these accomplished practitioners can bring complex problem-solving ability to challenges in many domains. IDSS had the pleasure of welcoming several of them, along with program staff, on a visit to our campus this month. https://lnkd.in/eh_AaC8r

Nuclear propulsion in commercial shipping is one of the most promising solutions for green shipping. It is also a central theme of the MIT Maritime Consortium and today we announce the first of its kind nuclear safety handbook for commercial shipping, the result of an excellent collaboration between multiple Massachusetts Institute of Technology units: Center for Ocean Engineering, MIT Naval Construction and Engineering, Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering, MIT Technology and Policy Program, and MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS), with valuable input by key industry stakeholders: American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Capital Clean Energy Carriers Corp. and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd. (HD KSOE). At maritime.mit.edu you can also find a detailed ship design study for retrofitting a 12,000 TEU container ship, coupled with a rigorous techno economic analysis supported by real world data provided by Capital Clean Energy Carriers Corp. that shows strong financial benefits under various emission tax scenarios. Very thankful to all our innovation and founding members for their strong supoort and to Anne Wilson for writing the MIT News Article! Many more results coming soon on the technology, policy and social perception of nuclear in the commercial shipping world!
