Independent since 1906, we empower people through sport and craftsmanship to create positive change around the world.

About us

In 1906, New Balance began as a humble one-man operation founded on the belief that “we were born to move,” and has since grown into an international corporation, selling footwear and apparel in over 120 countries and employing over 14,000 associates worldwide. Our mission has always been to support the performance of athletes, and with an unparalleled focus on quality and craftsmanship, we’ve come to set the standard for comfort and fit in an industry all too often driven by hype. We’re incredibly proud of our history and how far we’ve come, but companies don’t thrive for over a century by being content. Whether it’s setting a new style trend, retooling our manufacturing process, or building a new state-of-the-art headquarters, we pursue innovation with a spirit of fearless independence. As the only privately held major footwear company in the world, we’re free to do things our way, pushing limits and testing boundaries as we continually reimagine what could be. After all, the status quo isn’t static. But doing things our way wouldn’t mean much if we weren’t also doing them the right way. We invest in our associates as they invest in us, and as we move forward, we make a point of giving back, supporting communities around us through ambitious philanthropic efforts and involvement programs. We are a company that cares, and our culture is one of integrity and teamwork where together we become greater than the sum of our parts.

  • New Balance has invested $65 million to expand and modernize our Central Maine factory, adding 120,000 sq. ft. of new single‑story manufacturing space and renovating 20,000 sq. ft. of the original building to create a best-in-class manufacturing operation. Join Production Manager Bruce Poulin for a walk-and-talk tour of our upgraded facility in Central Maine and get a behind-the-scenes look at how innovation and tradition come together on the factory floor. NB MADE in USA footwear contains a domestic value of 70% or more and makes up a limited portion of NB’s U.S. sales.

  • Elizabeth Kender's journey from Division I athlete to footwear developer at New Balance is a powerful example of what happens when passion meets purpose. With a background in plastics engineering and a lifelong love for sports, Elizabeth has spent nearly a decade bringing performance footwear to life—designing shoes worn by everyone from elite athletes on national television to the casual hobbyist hitting the pavement. Through mentorship, collaboration and a commitment to impact, Elizabeth continues to inspire others to chase bold goals and build meaningful legacies. Elizabeth’s work is driven by curiosity, community and a deep commitment to honoring those who paved the way. Her story is a reminder that innovation isn’t just about product, it’s about people. 💬 “I’m grateful to be part of a company that values collaboration, curiosity and heart. That’s why I’ve been here for over nine years and why I’ll keep building shoes, and stories, that matter.”

  • At New Balance, we believe in the power of sport to transform lives, uplift communities and create lasting impact. That belief was on full display recently as the University of Maine proudly unveiled its new athletic facilities, including the New Balance Track & Field and Soccer Complex. This transformative space will advance UMaine’s commitment to excellence in the state’s only Division I athletics program, promote gender equity and establish a premier destination for high school championships, competitive sports and community gatherings. We’re proud to support UMaine and help build spaces where athletes thrive, communities gather and dreams are realized.

  • We’re proud to share a momentous milestone in our commitment to community and care. New Balance Foundation has made a transformational gift of $100M to Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), one of the largest investments in our Foundation’s history. This visionary contribution will help build the West Tower of the Phillip and Susan Ragon Building, a state-of-the-art facility that will anchor MGH’s world-class heart and vascular care. The Tower will now be named the New Balance Foundation Tower. With deep roots in Boston and a shared mission to serve near and far, we’re thrilled to partner with MGH to build healthier communities.
