About us

SEASALT Europe is the European organisation of Sea Saltworks. Sea salt production is one of the most sustainable activities that exist due to the fact that we produce it from seawater with the help of the sun and the wind. The result: a huge wetland rich in biodiversity, whose most characteristic symbol is the flamingo. We collaborate with different organizations, entities, companies, agencies and other stakeholders to ensure the well-being of a sector that is essential for the environmental health of our planet.

  • From the windswept shores of the Adriatic, we’re proud to welcome a new soul to our sea salt family: Solana Pag 🤍 For centuries, this iconic saltworks has captured the essence of the island’s sun, sea, and stone, creating one of Croatia’s purest and most distinctive salts. 🌞🌬️🌊 Each crystal tells a story of craftsmanship, patience, and harmony with nature, shaped by the same elements that have defined Pag’s landscape for generations. We’re thrilled to have Solana Pag join SEASALT Europe, bringing with it a legacy of authenticity and respect for the sea. ⚪✨ #SeaSalt #PremiumSalt #CroatiaSalt #SEASALTEurope #SolanaPag #NaturalSalt #Tradition #Sustainability #Adriatic #Croatia

  • 🌿 On World Energy Saving Day, we’d like to highlight how SEASALT Europe represents a sector that truly works in harmony with nature. Our sea salt is produced through the natural power of the sun and the wind, without intensive industrial processes or high energy consumption. This renewable, nature‑driven production model allows us to: ✅ Minimize the use of conventional energy sources. ✅ Reduce our carbon footprint by relying on favorable natural conditions. ✅ Protect coastal ecosystems and wetlands linked to salt pans. For our partners across the value chain (from production and transformation to distribution), this is not only an environmental commitment but also a competitive advantage. In a market where energy responsibility and sustainability are key purchasing factors, our production model delivers real added value, aligning with the expectations of industrial buyers, export markets, and European sustainability standards. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing responsible production practices, fostering research and innovation, and further optimizing the role of wind and sunlight in our work, helping our sector adapt to the global energy challenge. 🌞🌬️ #SeaSaltEurope #EnergyEfficiency #SustainableProduction #WorldEnergySavingDay #Biodiversity #NaturalEnergy

  • 🔑 Key Takeaways from the Organic Market Conference in Brussels Last week, we proudly participated in the #Organic Market Conference (OMC), jointly organized by OPTA Europe and AöL e.V. in Brussels. The overwhelming message was clear: The EU organic sector needs stronger market strategies and urgent regulatory clarity to continue its essential growth. Here are the three main takeaways: 1. The Call for an Assertive Commercial Strategy 🌍 With traditional markets slowing down due to geopolitical and economic volatility, the sector is uniting in its demand for expansion: Internationalization is Key: Industry leaders urged the European Commission and policymakers to adopt a more assertive commercial strategy to actively open new markets for EU organic products. Global reach is now critical for survival and long-term expansion. Equivalence Agreements: The vital role of organic equivalence agreements was highlighted as a crucial tool to simplify market access for exporters. 2. Targeted Regulatory Clarity is Coming 🇪🇺: The most significant news was the announced review of the fundamental legislation. Commission’s Intent: Commissioner Christophe Hansen (DG AGRI) confirmed the Commission's intention to propose targeted changes to the Organic Regulation to ensure it is "fit for the future" and provides necessary stability. The 'Herbaria' Factor: This revision is primarily motivated by the need to integrate recent court judgments (specifically the Herbaria case) by seeking clarification and simplification without compromising standards. Limited Scope: Hansen stressed the changes will be a "limited number of modifications to the Organic Basic Act," maintaining the high standards the sector is known for. 3. Market Optimism Anchored in Long-Term Value 🌱 The conference provided detailed market insights, maintaining a tone of cautious optimism: Market Analysis: Key market trends in the EU were thoroughly explored in a panel, including excellent presentations on Spain, Denmark, Poland, and the Netherlands. A special mention goes to David Caré, President of ASOBIO - Asociación Española de Elaboradores y Comercializadores Ecológicos for his valuable Spanish market insights. The Gold Standard: The strong consensus remains: organic production is the "gold standard" of environmentally sustainable agriculture, giving it an undeniable strategic advantage for the future. In short, the organic sector is organized and demanding a dual approach: regulatory clarity for stable production and political support to capture the global market share it deserves. FroSEASALT Europepe, we stand ready to advocate for this transparency and stability to secure the future of our products both within and beyond Europe. #OrganicMarket #EULaw #OrganicRegulation #Sustainability #FoodSector #AgriFood #OMC2025 #Brussels #TradePolicy #SEASALTEurope #IFOAM

  • 🧬 When Nature Inspires Science! A new study published in Scientific Reports – Nature (2025) Nature Magazine has revealed the remarkable anticancer potential of bacterioruberin, a carotenoid pigment extracted from Haloferax mediterranei strains isolated in the Bras del Port, S.A. sea saltworks (Santa Pola, Spain), a proud member of SEASALT Europe. The research demonstrates that bacterioruberin can induce apoptosis in myeloid leukemia cells while leaving healthy cells intact — a promising breakthrough in the field of health-focused biotechnology. This discovery once again highlights the microbial richness of Mediterranean salt ecosystems, and the value of protecting and studying these unique environments. Our warmest congratulations to the research team — and a very special mention to Dr. Rosa María Martínez Espinosa from UA - Universidad de Alicante / Universitat d'Alacant, lead researcher and recently welcomed as an Honorary Member of SEASALT Europe, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to science and saline microbiology. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://rdcu.be/euE15 #SEASALTEurope #BrasDelPort #Bacterioruberin #ScientificReports #BiotechResearch #MarineMicrobiology #Haloferax #LeukemiaResearch #SaltScience #ExtremeEnvironments #WomenInScience
