The state is running an awards program for Utah companies using AI to improve people's work and lives. Nominations close Sunday night. I hope a lot of Silicon Slopes companies apply. Most public conversation about AI focuses on what it might take from people, especially their jobs. Much less gets said about the companies using it to help employees take on bigger work, or to fix something in a school or a clinic that's been broken for years. That work is happening here. It just doesn't get much attention, partly because the people doing it are busy doing it. The Pro-Human AI Elevation Awards are judged on outcomes, not size or marketing, so a small startup has the same shot as a large company. Finalists will be recognized at the Governor's AI event at the Grand America, and winners will be announced at the Utah AI Summit on Dec. 8. If your company is doing this kind of work, apply. What an event! Yesterday at the Women Tech Awards, we celebrated more than 40 women who are helping shape what’s next in technology, STEM and leadership. From students pursuing STEM degrees and women re-entering the workforce to entrepreneurs, innovators and seasoned executives, this year’s 43 honorees represented nearly every stage of the talent pipeline. Different paths. Different experiences. Different areas of expertise. But one common thread — they’re not just participating in innovation. They’re creating it. Throughout the afternoon, we heard stories about developing new technologies, solving complex challenges, leading through change and building things that didn’t exist before. We also heard the lessons these women have learned along the way — insights we can all take back to our own work. That’s what makes the Women Tech Awards more than an awards celebration. It’s a chance to learn from the women actively shaping Utah’s technology community and economy.
