When you connect to someone in SimpleX Chat via a QR code you got in a meeting, you know that the connection is secure and trusted, because you know where this QR code came from. Identity is about trust. When you talk to some phone number on Signal or WhatsApp, how do you know it belongs to the person you think it does Both can fake that, and so can anyone who compromises them. With AI, faking writing style, voice and appearance became trivially cheap. Faking a phone number, an email or a website address is likely to become just as cheap within a few years. Then trust in provider-verified identity will collapse. That is why SimpleX Network is built differently - without any user identifiers. Trust depends on cryptography and on you - a code you scanned in person, a channel you already trust, a decentralized public name registry - not on providers.
