Are you interested in advancing dermatology in clinical trials? We invite you to join us for the 2025 Meeting the Challenge Summit as we strive for improved representation in dermatology research studies/clinical trials. This Summit, themed "Advancing Dermatology in Clinical Trials: Expanding Outcome Measures," will provide stakeholders a valuable opportunity to share and enhance their knowledge, exchange information on broadening clinical trial representation, and engage in networking and collaboration. For the third time since its inception in 2022, this important forum is co-chaired by SOCS Past Presidents Drs. Valerie Callender, MD, and Valerie Harvey. The Summit will focus on patient-reported outcome measures and clinical trial design, emphasizing integrating patient experiences, particularly across various backgrounds, into dermatologic research. The program will explore best practices in trial design and outcome measurement, and discuss diseases that are inadequately represented in clinical trials. Key discussions will center on how to make clinical trials more representative and impactful, prioritizing patient voices throughout the research process to drive better outcomes in patient care. We invite you to engage with us through this true meeting of the minds! What a difference a mentor makes! And when it comes to the vital need to increase diversity in clinical research, that is especially so. For the third year in a row, since the groundbreaking Diversity in Clinical Research (DiCR) Mentorship program was established, we were pleased to present the Phase II: In-Person Principal Investigator Training and Meet Your Mentor Day on Friday, July 18, in Chicago. This highly informative day of in-person training and mentorship is a key part of the multi-phase DiCR program, which we offer in close collaboration with the National Medical Association (NMA) Dermatology Section. This unique initiative is co-led by SOCS Clinical Investigator Committee Co-chairs Drs. Leandra A. Barnes and Tarannum Jaleel, and NMA Dermatology Section Chair Dr. Hope Mitchell and NMA Membership Chair Dr. Cheri Frey, who are both SOCS members as well. The recent program featured several insightful presentations and panel discussions by an outstanding faculty, covering a wide range of topics essential to developing a comprehensive understanding of the clinical trial process from a site perspective, including study initiation, clinical trial agreements and budget negotiations, participant recruitment, advertising, data collection, study completion, and more. Esteemed faculty included: Tiffany Bennett and SOCS members Drs. Valerie D. Callender, Corey L. Hartman, Tiffany Mayo, and Michi Shinohara, as well as Jennifer Lane and Jennifer O’Hora (Johnson & Johnson), and Vidhya Hariharan (Incyte). This program is made possible thanks to the generous support of Johnson & Johnson. Stay tuned for videos featuring insights from DiCR mentors and mentees.
