Better Future, Quicker

About us

We transmit, distribute and connect electricity to and from 3.5 million homes and businesses over our network, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. We operate in three of the UK's largest cities (Liverpool, Glasgow & Edinburgh) accounting for 1.6m (46%) of our customers, as well as three significant rural areas (North Wales, Scottish Borders and Dumfries & Galloway). We take electricity generated from power stations and renewable energy sources, reduce it to the low voltage needed for homes and transport it through our vast electricity network. We also provide customers with new or upgraded connections to our network. We are a substantial employer with a distribution workforce of 2,600 internal employees made up of field staff, engineers, technical specialists, customer service and support staff based at 17 locations in the South of Scotland and 17 locations in England and Wales. We utilise around 2,500 contractors across these areas. Our highly trained and specialist staff work 24/7 to maintain the performance and safe condition of our electricity network, respond to customer enquiries and restore the supply as quickly as possible when a fault occurs on the network. In the UK, we are a leading Distribution Network Operator (DNO) in distributing renewable energy, having connected around 7GW of renewable generation to our networks with more connected on a daily basis.

  • 🌍⚡ Our lives are more reliant on electricity than ever. Upgrading our power grid will unlock Britain's renewable potential and deliver cleaner, homegrown energy. That’s why, earlier this year, we came together with Britain’s other transmission owners SSEN Transmission & National Grid - and the Energy Networks Association (ENA) to launch an exciting new campaign, Moving the Grid Forward. This campaign lays out the importance of our journey towards creating a national energy network that will enable us to become self-sufficient in homegrown, affordable energy. Moving the grid forward, moves us all forward. 🎥 Watch the campaign and find out more at movingthegridforward.co.uk #movingthegridforward #ElectricityTransmission #CleanPower2030 #NetZero #EnergySecurity #NetZeroWeek

We’re over the moon to share that we’ve been shortlisted for the 2025 Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Excellence Awards, alongside our brilliant PR partners at Stripe Communications! Our campaign, which focuses on raising awareness of electrical safety and supporting people during power cuts—especially those most vulnerable—has made the final in the ‘Best Long-Term Campaign’ category. It’s work that really matters, and we’re proud of the real-world impact it’s having. Every year, we challenge ourselves to do public service messaging differently—cutting through the noise with content that’s engaging, accessible and memorable. Our seasonal campaigns have helped turn safety advice into something that sticks, helping people understand what to do in a power cut and how to stay safe around electricity. This recognition from CIPR means a lot. It’s a nod to the passion and purpose behind our work—and to the teams working hard to put people first. #CIPRexcel

  • 📢 NEWS: Ofgem has today (1 July 2025) released its Draft Determination on our RIIO-T3 Business Plan, in which we set out how we will transform our transmission network in central and southern Scotland from 2026 to 2031. 💬 Commenting on the release of the Draft Determination, Nicola Connelly, CEO of #SPEnergyNetworks, said: “Our plans to invest up to £12bn into the major rewiring of Britain will unlock capacity and economic growth, as well as reducing electricity bills and network constraints. This is exactly what is needed to electrify the country, support households and businesses, and deliver the Government’s Clean Power 2030 ambitions. “In today’s Draft Determination, we welcome that Ofgem recognises this historic investment is critical to ensuring energy security. We will now take time to analyse their initial position in more detail. Between now and December we will engage to ensure a balanced regulatory framework that incentivises this critical investment is delivered.” Read more on our website ➡️ https://lnkd.in/es6Dutrf #MovingTheGridForward #CleanPower2030 #NetZero #ElectricityTransmission
