Wonderful news for The Athenaeum Hotel and Residences to be shortlisted for the Condé Nast Traveller Award for Excellence in Green Practices and Sustainability. Across our hotel collection we recognise the importance of our efforts to continually improve our ESG, working with accreditation bodies and frameworks for measurement. 📣 We are not unfamiliar with being recognised for our efforts to improve our ESG (environmental, social, and governance) and this year we’re celebrating again with a nomination in the Condé Nast Traveller awards for excellence. Can we retain our 2025 title as Best for Green Practices and Sustainability? With your help, we certainly hope we can. As a central London operator we recognise the impact our operations have on people, planet and community and our committed to continuously improving our environmental and social practices. We work with, and are silver accredited by, EarthCheck, who provide a framework and benchmarks for our operations to be measured against. Ensuring we adapt our policies and focus on critical areas highlighted through our certification. 🪴 In September we updated our ESG commitments across the hotel and as part of this we are currently in the process of refreshing our iconic Living Wall, a haven for London's wildlife and a valuable contributor to reducing carbon produced by our central location. 💡 But we don't stop there. We have installed water flow reducers on showers and taps, LED lighting across the hotel and were the first to use Molton Brown sustainable toiletries in every guest room. 🥕 Our hotel is equipped with two voltage monitors, ensuring we only use the energy we need. In our restaurant we source our produce as locally as possible. Our chefs strive for new, more planet-friendly ways to prepare, cook and dispose of our food. 🧮 We have committed to calculating our carbon emissions on an annual basis, and taking steps to reduce emissions across Scopes 1 and 2 and Scope 3 where possible. September has been Wellbeing Month across our hotels – a chance to create new routines, keep an eye out for each other, celebrate achievements and learn new skills. 🌱 Week 1 was Healthy Planet, Healthy People introducing meat-free Mondays and Green Commute Day challenging the team to switch up their travel to a more sustainable option. 🏃 Week 2 focused on movement. Practising yoga poses, conducting moving meetings and participating in all-team stretch sessions, this week felt energetic! 🧘♂️ Week 3 explored meditation and mood-boosting gratitude practice. The week ended with a digital detox, allowing space for thoughtful ideas to form and wrapping up the week with a clearer mind. 💷 Week 4 looked at financial wellbeing, and the impact of keeping on top of what’s coming in and what’s going out. We introduced a Financial MOT tool and a new financial wellbeing app to help track, plan and save finances more effectively.
