The Halo Board at the L.A. Clippers’ Intuit Dome, designed by Spinifex Group, is, in some ways, a constantly evolving study of fan engagement. The Sports Business Journal uncovers one of the many ways the Clippers are using the Halo Board to their advantage. This time, they invited 200 of their most boisterous fans to see the Clippers take on the Nuggets during the NBA playoffs. Learn about the art and science behind the Halo Board at the link below.
The LA Clippers are turning up the volume on fan engagement with Wave Makers, a data-driven program that rewards fans for their energy and participation inside the new Intuit Dome. Using embedded sensors and real-time scoring, fans earn points for arriving early, cheering loudly, and even helping opponents miss free throws. One of the organization's standout innovations is a halftime Candy Crush activation powered by seat-mounted gamepads and the arena’s massive Halo Board, which is aimed at getting fans to return to their seats before the start of the third quarter. If enough people get back to their seats before the second half commences and put their candy on the board, the Halo Board figuratively erupts, shooting collectibles into the crowd from its mounted T-shirt cannons. After months of collaboration and innovation, the iconic Halo Board (5x the size of the average NBA Scoreboard) unveiled a new chapter for today’s modern stadium. The double sided wraparound LED display spanning nearly an acre redefines the live sports space, pulling the audience closer to the action. With more than 233 million pixels and real-time, data-driven storytelling, it turns every game into a unique fan experience.
