About us
The Publications Office of the European Union is the official provider of publishing services to all EU institutions, bodies and agencies. As such, we are the central point of access to EU law, and also to publications, data, research results, procurement notices and other official information. The Publications Office therefore plays a central role in informing the public about what the EU does and means for them, and in unlocking the power of data. Our mission is to support EU policies as a centre of excellence for information, data and knowledge management, and to ensure that this broad range of information is available to the public as accessible and reusable data to facilitate transparency, economic activity and the diffusion of knowledge.

🎯 A full house and a full morning of insights! In our latest breakfast roundtable The Data Tank convened 25 participants from across Europe’s policy, research, civil society and academic communities for an engaging roundtable titled “Data-readiness in turbulent times: what’s next for Europe’s data and AI strategies?” Moderated by our Co-Founder Stefaan Verhulst, PhD, the discussion explored different perspectives on what should Europe’s next steps be for its announced Data Union and its digital strategy more broadly. The Data Tank presented its recent policy brief and convened a conversation on how Europe can ensure that data serves the public interest, responsibly and sustainably. From the need to strengthen human infrastructure (through data stewardship and skills development), to the protection of the digital commons and the innovation of data governance frameworks, the exchanges revealed both the complexity and the shared determination to make Europe’s data ecosystem more open, fair, and future-proof. 💡 A huge thank you to our distinguished speakers for their insightful lightning talks in the roundtable: 👉 Franck NOEL – Publications Office of the EU 👉 Anke Schuster MBA – Committee of the Regions 👉 Anna Mazgal – Wikimedia Europe 👉 Paul Keller – Open Future 👏 Your contributions set the tone for a morning rich in ideas and collaboration — reminding us that responsible data governance is a collective task. 📸 Stay tuned as we continue to translate these reflections into concrete next steps for Europe’s data future. Today marks the European Day of Justice! ⚖️🇪🇺 The rule of law is a cornerstone of the EU. It guarantees the uniform application of EU law across all Member States and creates a predictable environment for people and businesses. While Member States have different national identities and traditions, the core meaning of the rule of law is the same in all of them and can be defined along six principles: ⚖️ Legality, implying a transparent, accountable, democratic and pluralistic process for enacting laws ⚖️ Legal certainty ⚖️ Prohibition of the arbitrary exercise of executive power ⚖️ Effective judicial protection by independent and impartial courts with effective judicial review including respect for fundamental rights ⚖️ Separation of powers ⚖️ Equality before the law. The rule of law also relies on easy access to the laws by everybody. At the Publications Office of the European Union, we make that possible with EUR-Lex. For quick briefs, discover our 'Summaries of EU legislation'. Look under 'EU Law' on op.europa.eu.
