Brightness Enhancement Film is not about generating more light – it is about using the light from the backlight more efficiently. By redirecting off-axis light toward the viewing direction, BEF increases on-axis luminance without increasing LED current. This improves perceived brightness while keeping power consumption and thermal load under control – which directly benefits lifetime and stability in industrial displays. The theoretical trade-off is a narrower viewing angle, as more light is concentrated toward the front. However, with IPS panels – which inherently offer wide viewing angles – this effect is typically not perceptible in practical industrial applications. For this reason, Brightness Enhancement Film is now part of our standard optical stack. It allows higher brightness and improved energy efficiency without overdriving the backlight. If you would like to understand in more detail how BEF works and how it interacts with the optical stack, we explain the engineering background in our article: 👉 https://lnkd.in/drZtZqEp

In industrial HMIs, the role of touch has changed. Interfaces are no longer single-button control panels — they are dynamic, graphical systems with gestures, sliders and multi-level menus. This evolution is one of the main reasons why projected capacitive technology became our standard. It supports multi-touch interaction, enables modern UI concepts and maintains high optical clarity without the visible pressure layer typical for resistive panels. Beyond interaction, capacitive touch allows stronger front glass and cleaner front designs. This improves mechanical robustness and makes it easier to achieve sealed, flat surfaces in kiosks, terminals and industrial equipment. Resistive technology still has its place in very specific scenarios. But in most contemporary industrial systems, capacitive touch aligns better with how modern HMIs are designed and used. If you want to see how our projected capacitive touch solutions are implemented in industrial applications, you can find more details on our PCAP page. In industrial HMIs, a touch panel is not just the glass you touch – it is a sensor layer with a controller that translates physical contact into electrical signals. How stable those signals are over time is what really matters. Industrial-grade touch panels are built to handle thick cover glass, electrical noise, grounding variations, gloves and moisture. Consumer-grade solutions may work on a test bench, but once integrated into a metal enclosure and exposed to real EMC conditions, instability often appears. We have been developing display solutions since 2012, and one thing is consistent: reliable touch behaviour depends on the entire stack – glass, controller and integration. That is why we use industrial-grade projected capacitive (PCAP) touch panels. Compared to resistive technology, PCAP offers higher optical clarity, better durability (no mechanical pressure layer), multi-touch capability and more stable long-term performance. In industrial environments where readability, lifetime and mechanical robustness matter, these advantages outweigh the simplicity of resistive solutions. If you are evaluating touch technologies for your project, we explain the practical differences and trade-offs between resistive and capacitive touch in more detail in our article: 👉 https://lnkd.in/dNd-wkp8

🖥️ Running LVGL on a microcontroller usually means managing a full framebuffer. With Bridgetek Pte Ltd's EVE, that part disappears. In this guide, we show how to connect LVGL with the EVE GPU on a Riverdi display and run a complete GUI over SPI—without loading the MCU with rendering tasks. What’s inside: ▪️ How the EVE rendering pipeline works (command-based, no framebuffer) ▪️ How to set up an STM32 project and connect it over SPI ▪️ How LVGL draw calls are translated into GPU commands ▪️ How to enable touch and run your first UI ▪️ How to verify everything with a working demo The focus is on a repeatable workflow you can reuse across projects, not just a one-off setup. 👉 Read the full guide: https://lnkd.in/dGWkH7sf ▶️ Or watch the video: https://lnkd.in/dS7fzEPZ #Riverdi #LVGL #EmbeddedGUI #EmbeddedDisplays #STM32 #EVE #Bridgetek #EmbeddedSystems #HMI #DisplayEngineering #SPI #GUIdevelopment

Choosing cover glass for an industrial display is often reduced to a single parameter—thickness. In practice, this simplification can lead to unexpected trade-offs once the display is integrated into a real device. Glass type, strengthening method and surface treatment influence more than impact resistance. They affect breakage behaviour, optical neutrality, surface hardness and long-term durability. Chemically strengthened and thermally tempered glass behave differently, and these differences become relevant in demanding industrial environments. When selecting a display for your project, understanding these glass characteristics helps avoid hidden compromises and ensures the solution matches your mechanical and environmental requirements. In this article, we explain the engineering background behind different glass types used in TFT LCD displays and what they mean in practice.

Integrating an embedded display is easier when you clearly see how the system is built. That’s why on the product pages of our STM32 Embedded Displays we provide hardware block diagrams showing the main system architecture. They illustrate how key components connect to the MCU, including: 🖥️ LCD panel and backlight 🖥️ capacitive touch controller 🖥️ communication interfaces (CAN, RS-485) 🖥️ external interfaces and expansion connectors 🖥️ memory and storage 🖥️ debugging interfaces (SWD) 🖥️ and many more This helps engineers quickly understand the hardware structure of the module and simplifies system integration during early design stages. You can find the block diagrams directly on our product pages.

🖥️ Device Tree overlays often block the first successful bring-up. To solve this, we prepared a guide that walks you step by step through building and deploying a working overlay for Riverdi displays on Toradex Verdin modules using Torizon OS. Inside, you’ll see how to: ▪️ prepare the Linux build environment and dependencies, ▪️ match kernel and overlay branches for BSP compatibility, ▪️ build a .dtbo file using the Toradex overlay framework, ▪️ transfer and enable the overlay on the target device, ▪️ go from clean hardware to a working GUI with touch. The focus is on a repeatable workflow you can reuse across projects—not just a one-off setup. 👉 Read the full guide: https://lnkd.in/dGfUqwyk ▶️ Or watch the video: https://lnkd.in/dSpsfWZZ #Riverdi #Toradex #DeviceTree #EmbeddedLinux #iMX8 #Torizon #EmbeddedSystems #DisplayIntegration #HardwareBringUp #LinuxDevelopment

Water on a touchscreen can easily cause false touch events. In many environments – industrial machines, medical devices, or outdoor equipment – displays are often exposed to water, cleaning liquids, or condensation. That’s why Riverdi designs touch systems that can operate reliably even with water on the surface. Our touch solutions are tuned to distinguish between actual finger input and water droplets, preventing unintended interactions. In the video below, you can see how the display behaves with water on the screen vs without it.

One question that keeps coming up in embedded hardware: who do you actually trust for the long run? At #EmbeddedWorld2026, our friends from Somco Software interviewed Łukasz Kowalski from Riverdi — and the answer was refreshingly honest. When the display is a core component of a device with a 2–3 year development cycle, potential certifications, and years of production ahead — availability and supply chain reliability matter far more than headline price. Worth a watch if you're speccing displays for industrial or medical applications 👇 #EmbeddedSystems #IndustrialDisplays #ProductDevelopment #SupplyChain
One of the most memorable discussions our team had at Embedded World 2026 was with Łukasz Kowalski from our partners at Riverdi. With so many options available when it comes to displays - different sizes, shapes, and technologies - we discussed what clients are actually looking for in this ocean of choice. The answer may surprise you, because it’s not the price.💲 Take a look at this short interview 🎥👇
