“Optical technology has continuously advanced connectivity solutions to deliver the world’s growing capacity for bandwidth, from fibre optic deployments to innovations in wireless optical communications and across the photonics industry. As the fabric of our connectivity infrastructure expands to serve real-time AI inference, edge computing and billions of connected devices, we see bandwidth and latency bottlenecks throughout the network. Every layer of this network, from data centres to long-haul and last-mile links – and even non-terrestrial links – now face mounting pressure to deliver faster speeds and lower latency with greater energy efficiency,” wrote Devin Brinkley, SVP of Engineering at Taara, in Electro Optics. Following the Optical Solutions for High-Speed Data Transmission webcast, Electro Optics recently featured Devin’s perspective on how Taara is pushing the boundaries of optical communication — from precision beam alignment to robust system and network design — to deliver fast, reliable connectivity where traditional infrastructure is difficult or impossible to deploy. He highlights the importance of creating technology that’s both engineered for resilience and optimized for scalability, enabling broadband access across diverse environments, from dense urban residential corridors to remote industrial sites. “After decades of optimisation, most radio systems now operate around a decibel from the Shannon limit, which basically means they’re reaching the performance limitations. Wireless optical communications systems, on the other hand, are just beginning to tap their potential.” Read more about “Bridging the Optical Divide: The Real-World Challenges Behind High-Speed Connectivity” and what Taara is doing to make wireless optical communications ubiquitous: https://lnkd.in/gVZFvV_Y

🌖🇧🇷 Moonshots in Rio de Janeiro! In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, four moonshots—Tapestry, Taara, Anori, and Materra—are launching in Rio to help Brazil's second-largest city reach its bold vision of becoming a global hub for innovation. 🛜 Taara will deploy the world's first wireless optical mesh network to connect schools, hospitals, and government centers. 💡 Tapestry's tools will support the city's grid to become "AI ready" as they develop Rio AI City with Elea Data Centers. 🏠 Anori will help the city approve and build affordable housing more quickly. ♻️ And Materra will help Rio meet its ambitious targets of raising the recycling rate to 35% by 2030 and 80% by 2050. Launched this week with scooters and samba, we look forward to working with Mayor Eduardo Paes and his team as they transform Rio into an urban sandbox for experimentation, innovation, and economic growth. Founder and CEO, Taara

Taara is coming to Rio de Janeiro! Yesterday we announced a new partnership with the City of Rio to deploy the world’s first wireless optical mesh network to connect schools, hospitals and government centers.   Over the next few months we’ll work with the city to deploy 20+ links that will deliver fast, affordable and abundant connectivity to communities where connectivity is spotty or unreliable. The links will extend Rio's existing fibre network and create an invisible mesh network over parts of the city to deliver fast, abundant connectivity. This work is part of a wider collaboration between X, The Moonshot Factory and Rio to help bring Rio’s bold AI City vision to life. Huge thanks to Mayor Eduardo Paes and his team—it was so much fun to share the news with the wider Rio community yesterday. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gb9WRUSS

Today, as part of an announcement from The City of Rio de Janeiro and X, The Moonshot Factory, Taara announced our partnership with the city to deploy the world’s first mesh network of high-speed wireless optical links to deliver fast, abundant and secure connectivity to schools, hospitals and city offices in Rio. Although Brazil ranks among the world’s five largest internet economies, more than half of the population uses smartphones to get online, and existing cellular infrastructure varies by community. Taara's goal is to bridge connectivity gaps across the city and provide fast, affordable connectivity to critical services like schools, hospitals, government centers, and in disaster response situations. We are honored to be supporting Rio’s AI City vision and its mission to transform the region into a global innovation hub. We hope Taara's first mesh network in Rio can serve as a blueprint for urban connectivity and inspire a more connected, intelligent, and inclusive world. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gZNAc8F2

I very much enjoyed sharing X, The Moonshot Factory's blueprint for innovation with talented business leaders at the Impact Summit in Boston last week. It was fun to share the stories and motivations behind some of our greatest hits, from Waymo’s self-driving cars to Wing’s autonomous delivery drones to Taara’s laserbeam internet. Thanks to Scott Kirsner for hosting me for an energizing, thought-provoking fireside chat about how we approach audacious thinking and build breakthrough technology that can have a lasting, positive impact on the world.
