The sights and sounds of moving water have long been recognized for their calming qualities. Biophilic research suggests that the presence of water can reduce stress, reduce blood pressure and increase circulation. Despite their effectiveness in reducing stress, water features have many risks and issues – primarily associated with infection control, cost and maintenance – that make them incompatible with healthcare environments.
