After a challenging election season, we are reminded of a simple truth: the outdoors brings us together. Across the country, voters stood united in their commitment to parks and public lands. With landmark wins such as California’s Climate Bond and conservation initiatives in Colorado, Minnesota, Georgia, and New Mexico. These victories highlight the power and potential of conservation to connect everyone to the outdoors. This shared work is more urgent than ever. ‘Deer Opener’ or ‘Pheasant Opener’ mark unofficial holidays for many Minnesotans. It’s a time-honored tradition every fall to don camo and blaze orange, load up the truck with the hunting crew, and head out on the land to score some game. But hunting can also be inaccessible and unwelcoming, especially for people of color, who might lack the experience, resources, or generational connection to the sport. That’s why we’re partnering with Backcountry Hunters & Anglers to pair BIPOC community members with experienced mentors for a series of hunts. Together, we’re breaking down barriers and creating an inclusive environment that represents more Minnesotans. https://lnkd.in/gVHy_HhS

Ready to shoot the Hooch? We are! For Georgians near the Chattahoochee River, ‘shooting the Hooch’ means floating down this beloved waterway, and thanks to our incredible funders, we’re able to create a first of its kind camp and paddle experience within metro-Atlanta. With $49 million secured, including a recent generous donation from the Blank Family Foundation, we can finish building the Camp + Paddle Trail as part of the Chattahoochee RiverLands. “We are grateful that philanthropic leaders understand the transformative impact that the Chattahoochee RiverLands will have upon our region and our state. The Camp + Paddle Trail and RiverLands Showcase are equitable investments that strengthen community health and resiliency by connecting residents to their river,” says George Dusenbury, Georgia State Director at Trust for Public Land.
