At the end of July, the Phoebe Project officially reaches its conclusion after nearly four years of collaboration, innovation and a shared ambition to make mobility smarter and safer. It has been a privilege for The Floow to work alongside an outstanding consortium of charities (iRAP, EIRA - European Institute of Road Assessment - EuroRAP), representative networks (POLIS network), research organisations (Technical University of Munich, National Technical University of Athens, Delft University of Technology, Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV)), industry partners (FACTUAL, Aimsun and more) and linked public authorities covering the UK (Transport for West Midlands), Spain (Valencia), and Greece (Athens). Collectively we brought world leading expertise in #transport, #RoadSafety, #AI and #MobilityData. Throughout the project, we have explored how new data and technologies can provide a deeper understanding of locational risk to better inform interventions that improve global road safety. For The Floow, the Phoebe Project has been an opportunity to contribute our expertise in #telematics, mobility analytics, and risk estimation while learning from partners with complementary knowledge, data, and perspectives. Together we have demonstrated the value of collaborative research to tackle predicting future risk. Beyond the technical achievements, one of the Phoebe Project's greatest successes has been bringing together those with a common purpose to save lives building potentials beyond one project that will create both new capabilities and lasting societal benefit. A sincere thank you to every consortium partner, the European Commission, the project coordinators, and everyone who contributed throughout the journey. Research of this scale is only possible because of the dedication and collaboration of so many talented people. We're proud to have been part of the Phoebe Project and look forward to seeing its impact continue across research, policy, and industry. More posts will follow about The Floow’s next steps about risk understanding. #PHOEBE #RoadSafety #Transport #Mobility #Innovation #HorizonEurope #Telematics #DataScience #AI #SaferRoads

Summer means holidays, road trips and visiting friends and family, but it also grows particular safety risks: #DriverFatigue. Long leisure journeys are very different from our daily commute and travel patterns. We're more likely to drive for several hours, travel on unfamiliar roads, leave early or arrive late, spend time in heavy or differing traffic and drive after poor sleep or busy days. These factors reduce alertness, slow reaction times and impair decision-making impacting risk. UK's collision data indicate clearly that driver fatigue related incidents are much more common during July and August. The good news is that fatigue is one of the most preventable road safety risks. 😴 Rest before travelling and take a break at least every two hours. At The Floow, we believe technology has an important role to play alongside good driving habits. Our mobility analytics identify increasing fatigue and provide feedback and reminders to encourage drivers to take breaks to minimise risk and encourage safer driving when less tired. But technology should always complement, not replace, good decisions behind the wheel. Wherever you're travelling this summer, plan your journey, recognise the signs of fatigue and don't push on when tired. The safest decision is simply to better plan holiday travel, stop as needed, rest and continue only when you're refreshed. The Floow has long been involved in #MakingMobilitySmarterAndSafer. We work with a wide range of partners to ensure leading understanding and mitigation of risk on the worlds roads. Yesterday Sam Chapman and Mark Burke represented The Floow in UK parliament at the unveiling of the #RoadSafetyFund update revealing £1.25B in societal value impacts from work The Floow have helped support. Read more below about this. The Floow #Impacts #RoadSafety with #RiskUnderstanding
In parliament yesterday, despite extreme heat, I attended the launch of the #SaferRoadsFundUpdate to reflect on what has been achieved when evidence drives safety investment. Around £240 million total investment (£195M to date) improving England's highest-risk roads is now estimated to prevent around 2,700 deaths and serious injuries. Also striking, the report estimates around £1.25 billion in economic benefit from preventing devastating collisions. We're particularly proud that The Floow is acknowledged within the report as a key partner giving mobility data insights helping towards identifying where investment will have the greatest road safety impact impacting so many lives. It's also fantastic to see success in proximity to The Floow's HQ recognised, with Derbyshire County Council and Sheffield City Council receiving the #ExemplaryRuralSchemeAward. These impacts however cross the whole country which has added or improved: ➕ 565 pedestrian crossings ➕ 490 junctions ➕ 355 miles of shoulder improvements ➕ 240 miles of safer speeds ➕ 150 miles of road median ➕ 150 miles of visibility and signage ➕ 120 roadside improvements ➕ 85 miles of surface improvements ➕ 40 miles of cycling facilities ➕ 20 school zones ➕ 15 miles of new footway #RoadSafety is increasingly becoming a #DataDrivenChallenge to best target interventions. The Floow bring together #telematics #DataInsight to help support locational #RiskUnderstanding to inform where to save the most lives. This is an area The Floow has continued to research through the #HorizonEurope Phoebe Project, working alongside iRAP and an outstanding consortium of global leading partners collectively supporting safety improvements impacting more than 135 countries. This work has extended how new data sources, #telematics and advanced analytics can strengthen #RoadSafety, helping road authorities further prevent losses across wide regions. The #SaferRoadsFund (boosted yesterday by Lilian Greenwood with a further £5 million of funding) is a powerful example that investing in road safety delivers substantial social and economic returns while preventing tragedies that would otherwise change lives forever. Congratulations to everyone involved across the UK (especially Road Safety Foundation UK) in collective efforts delivering this impactful programme. We look forward to continuing to support the use of better evidence, richer data and stronger collaboration to keep #MakingMobilitySaferForAll. In connected insurance, telematics data helps insurers make better decisions, create fairer products and support safer mobility. Protecting that data is therefore not optional. It is foundational. At The Floow, cybersecurity, privacy and data governance are built into the way we design, operate and improve our platforms. Our clients and partners trust us with sensitive mobility, behavioural and insurance-related data and that trust has to be earned every day. That means applying security and privacy by design from the outset, not as an afterthought. It means collecting and retaining only the data needed to deliver the service. It means protecting data in transit and at rest through strong encryption controls. It means operating under an ISO/IEC 27001:2022-certified information security management system, with structured governance, risk management and independently audited controls. It means designing our solutions around GDPR and wider global privacy expectations, including frameworks such as CCPA where relevant. And it means continuously testing, monitoring and improving our environment through vulnerability management, penetration testing and operational security controls. This matters because telematics platforms are becoming critical data infrastructure for insurers. A security incident is not just an IT issue; it can affect policyholder trust, regulatory confidence, operational resilience and brand reputation. At The Floow, insurers find a telematics partner that treats data protection, cyber resilience and operational assurance with the same seriousness they do. That is our commitment. For many young people, passing their driving test represents freedom and independence. But the first few years behind the wheel are also when drivers face their greatest risk. Research shows that young and novice drivers are disproportionately involved in serious collisions, not because they lack vehicle control, but because they are still developing experience in hazard perception, risk awareness and decision-making. Confidence often grows faster than driving ability. At The Floow, we believe safer driving starts with understanding behaviour, not just mastering the vehicle. Some practical advice for new drivers: 🚗 Put the phone away – distraction remains one of the biggest threats to young drivers. 🚗 Be extra cautious at night – fatigue, reduced visibility and higher-risk environments significantly increase collision risk. 🚗 Don't let passengers influence your decisions – peer pressure can encourage speeding and risk-taking. 🚗 Focus on spotting hazards early – learning to recognise developing risks is one of the most valuable driving skills. 🚗 Stay humble – passing your test means you've demonstrated competence, not mastery. Experience takes time to build. 🚗 Use technology wisely – driver assistance systems can help, but they are not a substitute for attention and good judgement. The evidence is clear: the safest young drivers are those who continue learning long after they've passed their test. Every journey is an opportunity to build experience, improve awareness and develop safer habits. Checking regularly how you drive using telematics can help drivers improve. Check it out - get safer today. #RoadSafety #YoungDrivers #DriverBehaviour #Telematics #RoadSafetyAwareness
