The cost of your Thanksgiving Turkey could be up to 70% higher than last year, according to David Anderson, an AgriLife Extension economist and professor in the Texas A&M University - Department of Agricultural Economics. Turkey supplies remain tight following a recurrence of avian influenza and lower production numbers, but there is still good news. Shoppers can expect some price breaks on their holiday staples, like eggs, milk, butter and other seasonal grocery items! Read more at: tx.ag/TurkeyPrice

Meet Dwayne Peirce, Agriculture and Natural Resources County Extension Agent in Wichita County! A lifelong farmer with deep roots in production agriculture, Dwayne brings both hands-on experience and academic expertise to supporting local producers. Having grown up on a family farm, earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agriculture, and worked as an agricultural consultant in the High Plains, he understands the challenges and opportunities facing today’s farmers and ranchers. In Wichita County, his days are spent in the field evaluating crops, assessing livestock, and working alongside producers to make the best management decisions possible. He’s a strong advocate for test plots and on-farm trials, knowing firsthand how these experiments can lead to higher yields and more profitable operations. Beyond production agriculture, Dwayne also works closely with the Wichita County Master Gardeners, supporting their volunteer efforts and community education programs. He’s developed a deep appreciation for their dedication and their positive impact on local horticulture. For Dwayne, agriculture is more than an occupation; it’s a lifelong passion tied to the beauty of the outdoors, the rhythm of the seasons, and the simple miracles of new seedlings and newborn livestock. His commitment to Extension ensures that local producers have the knowledge, resources and encouragement they need to thrive. Thank you, Dwayne, for your dedication to agriculture, education and the Wichita County community!
