We’re at the #OSSummit North America! 🚀 Open source keeps evolving, and the Open Source Summit North America shows just how strong this community is. 💪 Maintainers, contributors, platform builders, cloud architects… It’s where everyone who is shaping the future of modern infrastructure meet. For us, this matters deeply. We build an enterprise‑grade open‑source virtualization stack, and our work depends on a strong, transparent, and collaborative ecosystem. Staying aligned with the community is essential to delivering a sustainable alternative to proprietary virtualization models. Whether the discussions revolve around interoperability, performance, or long‑term maintainability, these conversations help reinforce what we stand for: open source that’s reliable, enterprise‑ready, and built to last. Because the future of virtualization shouldn’t be locked behind licenses. It should be shaped in the open, with everyone who relies on it. If you’re around and want to talk virtualization, open‑source infrastructure, or what a VMware‑free future looks like, come meet us! We’re always happy to explore these subjects with more people. 🙌 #OpenSource #EmbeddedLinux #Virtualization

Attending the #OSSummit North America? Meet us there to regain control of your infrastructure! It’s not every day we get the chance to take part in an event like this in the United States. That’s why we’re doubly looking forward to being there, and join the discussions on open‑source virtualization and what real infrastructure independence looks like. For us, open source is at the core of everything we build. It has since our beginnings in 2012. Now with Vates VMS, we bring you a complete virtualization solution that is easy to deploy, cost-effective, and more importantly, which gives you back strategic control over your infrastructure. What it means in practice is an infrastructure that works for you. Not the other way around. 🔓 No vendor lock-in 🔍 A transparent and auditable code 💸 No heavy licensing fees 🤝 A community-driven innovation ✅ Regular updates and security validation Need more information before the event? Check out our guide on how to migrate from VMWare! ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ev-QCHhi We’re looking forward to connecting with maintainers, contributors, and organizations who, like us, believe in the power of open ecosystems. See you soon in Minneapolis! 👋 #OpenSource #EmbeddedLinux #Virtualization

Removing the long-standing 2TB per virtual disk limit: QCOW2 for XCP-ng 8.3 is now here, introducing large disk support🚀 A 1.5 year journey now shared with you, after mobilizing many developers of the XCP-ng team. 🙌 Field feedback was clear: with bigger infrastructures and larger data sets, the 2TB ceiling had become a real obstacle for backups, storage‑intensive use cases, and migration workflows. With support for disks up to 16TB, these limitations disappear. Storage is now easier to manage without the need to rework your environment. VHD stays the default for smaller disks, while QCOW2 kicks in automatically above the former 2TB limit. Adding this feature was not done without facing challenges. That’s why we invested a lot of energy, time, and resources on QA, in order to make QCOW2 as stable as possible and able to perform along VHD format. 💪 This milestone is also particularly relevant for organizations moving away from VMware. Workloads who used to exceed 2TB on VMware can now be migrated more directly, without reshaping their storage layout beforehand. Thank you to everyone who pushed this forward. As always, further improvements are on the horizon. More about this news here: https://lnkd.in/ef4rekUa

Fujifilm MicroChannel, and what a well-planned migration can change: a user story. 🌟 At MicroChannel, VMware was the backbone of the infrastructure for both internal systems and customer hosting. Then came the licensing changes, harder-to-predict costs, and a tightening reliance on a single vendor. Daily operations also started to feel like obstacles, with limited backup integration, constrained workflows, and problems of flexibility when scaling across multiple hosts. Migrating towards another solution soon revealed essential. Finding a clear licensing model, with responsive support and an open architecture proved to be a necessity. Does that story speak to you? Read it our blog, and don’t hesitate to share your own with us! 👉 https://lnkd.in/ePwQGDf7 #Virtualization #CloudMigration #XCP-ng #XenOrchestra

Stuck with VMware? You're not alone. More organizations are eyeing alternatives, and migration is front and center. But even if you're fast-tracking your migration, don't skip the prep. The best migrations succeed with careful planning and risk-aware strategy. That's why we've built a new guide to accompany you from VMware or Hyper-V to Vates VMS. It's built around three pillars: • Scope control: what moves first, what waits • Operational safety: downtime, rollback, validation • People and process: ownership, timeline, runbooks Ready to plan your migration? Vates Virtualization Management Stack (XCP-ng / Xen Orchestra) reposted this
Virtualisation is a strategic layer of the modern data centre. It must deliver performance, transparency and long-term control. In this white paper, Bull, Vates Virtualization Management Stack (XCP-ng / Xen Orchestra) and Intel present a concrete, European-built alternative to proprietary virtualisation stacks: an open, sovereign approach combining trusted hardware, open-source software and industrial-grade performance. A clear path to regain control, predict costs and build resilient virtualisation infrastructure. 🔗 Download the white paper: https://lnkd.in/eCKebUaU #BullAIDestiny #Virtualisation #SovereignIT #OpenInfrastructure #DataCentre #EnterpriseIT

🚀 Xen Orchestra 6.4 is out! Headlining this release: the new RBAC / ACL v2 lands in the REST API. A full rework of how permissions work in XO, built around Subjects, Roles and Permissions. Users no longer need full admin rights to manage RBACs, which opens the door to proper delegation and much cleaner programmatic permission management. A few other highlights: 💾 Real-time backup progress is back in XO 6, fed directly into the XO Tasks system, with a new "merged size" metric in backup logs. 🛰️ More XO 5 features ported to XO 6: network and VIF deletion, snapshot deletion, disk connect/disconnect/detach/destroy, Security tab on Pools, smarter IP display. ☸️ CSI driver v0.2.0 with dynamic provisioning, Terraform provider v0.38.0, and 9 additional host RRD metrics + new VDI storage metrics in OpenMetrics. 🤖 Smarter MCP integration: tools loaded dynamically from our OpenAPI spec, Markdown formatting on REST collections, and support for connecting to several XO instances at once. 🔒 Let's Encrypt DNS-01 challenge support (technical preview), so you can get certificates without exposing XO to the public Internet. 🐛 And a 12-year-old TLS memory leak finally squashed. On affected instances, it was leaking up to ~3.7 GB of RAM per day. Full release notes 👉 https://lnkd.in/e79GhyeR
