🎥 I went on CBS News this morning to talk about the historic OpenAI and Microsoft news on the future of their partnership around #AI — and #AGI. 🔎 Here are the bullet points: + OpenAI will become a public benefit corporation (a mix between a traditional corp and a non-profit) + Microsoft will hold a 27% stake worth $135 billion and be the single largest stakeholder + The non-profit OpenAI Foundation will hold a 26% stake + Sam Altman will not get equity in the restructured company + Microsoft retains rights to OpenAI IP through 2032, even after OpenAI declares AGI (previously Microsoft's rights were to terminate at AGI) + When OpenAI declares AGI it will now have to be verified by an independent board of experts + The deal gives both companies more freedom to pursue partnership deals with other entities + OpenAI says it doesn't intend to become a publicly traded company but this agreement clears a path for that + Critics are concerned that OpenAI's original mission of ensuring AI development on a safe course to benefit humanity will be usurped by the primary motive of returning profits to stakeholders
