​Common wisdom says if a high-level executive fakes their way into a six-figure role, they are a master manipulator. I disagree. If your "System Audit" is so flimsy that a simple Google search or degree verification doesn’t happen until after the keys to the kingdom are handed over, you didn't get "conned"—you fell into an Efficiency Trap. ​We’re seeing this play out in the Buffalo startup scene right now with the Dante Richardson saga. A guy with a prior robbery conviction and allegedly fake Stanford credentials became a director at a major biodiesel firm. Now, after a termination and a shooting, the company is screaming "fraud". ​My mom used to repair circuit boards with a soldering iron and a magnifying glass because you couldn't just "trust" the trace was clean. You had to verify the hardware. In modern management, we’ve treated Accessibility to high-level roles as a "feature" instead of a core system requirement. We skip the Asynchronous Execution of background checks because we want to move at "startup speed". ​When you ignore the Legacy Code of a candidate's history, you aren't being "inclusive"—you’re just running a system with zero error handling. Management is Environment Optimization. If your environment allows a "con" to persist for months, the bug isn't just the person; it’s the protocol. ​Stop blaming the "con" and start patching your vetting process. Nick Ducoff, Head of Growth at Solana joined Suffolk University's Blockchain Revolution class last night to talk about the industry and its platform. If you don't know by now; Solana is a fast, layer-1 one blockchain designed to overcome scalability issues faced by earlier blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Rather than a straight power point presentation, the class was structured using a fireside chat Q+A where the class learned about why Solana is unique, its role in crypto and the financial system. of note, Solana has shown huge growth in recent years and continues to show enormous potential in the future. Nick also provided some interesting perspective on career paths and his own journey. The talk provided a number of valuable insights for the class, but I too felt that I learned new things about Solana and the industry from Nick's comments. After analyzing real-time data of 3,000+ NYC agents, including past deals, current listings, and social media networks, I found something very interesting: Many team leaders and brokerage founders in the NYC Metropolitan area are offering great splits, strong marketing support, and lead assistance — yet they still can’t recruit experienced, high-performing agents. On the other hand, in several large brokerages and top teams, many high-experience agents with years of transactions and strong deal history are currently getting little to no support. Some of them have zero active listings, despite being proven closers. This creates a huge opportunity. Team leaders are spending money but not getting skilled agents. Meanwhile, strong agents inside big brokerages are unsupported and underutilized. This “no-listing + no-support” gap is exactly where your opportunity lies. What should team leaders and brokerage founders do? Email these agents directly Call them Connect with them on LinkedIn & social media Start the conversation by acknowledging their experience: Their years in the business, their closed deals, their consistency. Then ask them the real question: “Why is a highly experienced agent like you still without listings?” Offer them: A better split A cap advantage Strong marketing support Free social media & content support A clear path to rebuild momentum This is how you attract them — by showing what they don’t currently have. Your hiring post is not reaching these agents. So you have to reach them directly. First, identify: Agents with years of experience Strong deal-closing history But currently zero active listings Then compile their: Email Phone LinkedIn Past deal history Put everything into an Excel sheet and conduct cold outreach + network building. This is how you connect with skilled agents and bring them into your team. 🚀 Just wrapped an incredible week at NY TECH WEEK by a16z, and the conversations across panels, demos, and networking sessions revealed some fascinating trends shaping the tech landscape. Big Thanks to all who attended our 5IR Funds & Friends Dinner to Logictry for hosting an incredible event! A few takeaways: AI continues to evolve rapidly, but the focus is shifting. While companies like Google and Anthropic are still seeing gains from scaling models larger, industry leaders like Sergey Brin emphasized that future progress will depend more on algorithmic breakthroughs than raw computational power. Interestingly, both DeepMind and Anthropic are now using AI itself to accelerate their own model development, suggesting we're entering a recursive improvement cycle. At the same time, there's a growing "capability overhang"—AI's potential far exceeds its current deployment in critical sectors like healthcare and public services. The workplace technology conversation has matured beyond automation fears. The consensus emerging from multiple sessions was that technology should enhance human interaction rather than replace it. Companies are learning that distributed teams and flexible work arrangements require intentional design and clear frameworks, not just better tools. Meanwhile, the often-invisible infrastructure—integrations, automated processes, supply chain intelligence—is becoming the differentiator for workflow efficiency. Infrastructure thinking is becoming systems-oriented. From construction to climate tech, speakers highlighted how emerging technologies like AI, EVs, and autonomous systems require entirely new infrastructure ecosystems. The construction industry's labor shortage is driving innovation focused on empowering existing workers rather than replacing them, while supply chain disruptions have made real-time visibility and execution tools essential for project delivery. While this sounds like bad news, it does have a flip side: as AI tools (such as AI agents) roll out, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 to implement, train, and maintain them. In other words, fewer routine roles, more AI-adjacent opportunities.
