Automation effort was started to utilize test stations to maximum ability executing tests over night and on weekends while showing detailed results. APIs for Wireshark, SSH, Email/SMTP, Logging and other application specific libraries were created and expanded as needs and uses grew from the Systems Engineering automation team. A distributed Job Management / Queue system was created to maximize utilization of multiple test stations; jobs could be submitted on any test station and would run on the next available test station, even if the executing test station was not the same as the station the test was submitted.

Network traffic simulation software for a Final Assembly Line (FAL) mode of the Network Server System was created in place of using tcpreplay to play back specialized network traffic. The FAL Network Simulator was written in Python and required custom packets be created via Ethernet/IP/ICMP/UDP header classes to simulate over 750 unique IP source/destination pairs being sent through 4 NICs. Unique routes were parsed on initialization of the software from server configuration files to exercise the maximum acceptable throughput for each specified source/destination. Validation of packets making it through the server was accomplished by a receiver that 'echoed' the packets back so appropriate accounting could be done to verify each packet sent had the appropriate response.

    Title: Data Transmission over Power-line

The main goal of the project was to allow data to be sent over a 28VDC power bus to control cabin electronics on board aircrafts. This design project was pitched to us by Emteq. This product will help the customer reduce the amount of wiring used in implementation of on board electronics. This will in turn reduces the amount of weight on the plane. With a reduction of weight the company operating the aircraft will see reduced fuel usage and end up with a lower cost of operation.

The main design example that we were given was interior aircraft lighting system. We will designed and implement a system around the 28VDC lighting system. The data controlling the lighting system will need to be sent over a noisy 28VDC power bus. We will not only design the product but we will also take into consideration safety, reliability, manufacturability, sustainability, cost, ethics, regulatory, intellectual property and environment.

This will require us to design a final product that is able to communicate through the 28VDC bus while allowing for electromagnetic interference known as EMI. Aircraft power is very noisy and product must be able to communicate on this bus while also meeting electromagnetic interference requirements. This will be increasingly challenging because we will be sending our data signal over the power wire. We will also need to design around Electromagnetic compatibility known as EMC. Electromagnetic compatibility includes radiated and conducted emissions. Radiated emissions will be coming from electromagnetic energy which is propagated through space into our product. Where Conducted emissions is when electromagnetic energy propagates through physical contact of the conductors. As a final parameter we will be required to design for impedance changes in the 28VDC bus. We will need to successfully send packets of data through a 28VDC bus which may see large impedance changes.
