May 2020: Applied for Microsoft SWE 2 position without a referral and got interview shortly after. Did really bad in the interview and was rejected November 2020: Applied for Microsoft SWE 2 again and got interview shortly again. The process started and I gave 3 back to back interviews same day. Today here I am working at Microsoft currently. Luck played a role, no doubt, but the hours of hard work and persistence I put in made all the difference. To anyone facing rejections right now, I know how overwhelming it feels. It’s completely normal to experience self-doubt, frustration, sadness, or even anger during this journey. I’ve been there—wondering why my applications weren’t being noticed or feeling disheartened after multiple rounds of team matching before finally moving forward. But let me tell you this: failures aren’t the end—they’re stepping stones to success. 🌟 Every rejection is an opportunity to grow. If you are looking for a job as a software developer? “The market is saturated” they say. False. Applying for jobs is saturated Conventional methods for finding full time jobs have not worked for the past 5-10 The one thing you need when looking for jobs is a counterintuitive reality in todays “automate everything” world What is that? Relationships Most people are not finding jobs because their relational capital is virtually non existent in the field they are looking to get into OR We haven’t been taught how to b humans and lean on relationships well 6 months ago this was called networking but for some reason all the big accounts will say “networking is dead” Everything has to have a new name. Suffice it to say, you need to connect with people. I guarantee hiring managers at companies see all the applicants and feel equal parts overwhelmed and compassionate about how many ppl are looking for jobs But I also guarantee they will look at a person with some relational connection before anyone else If you can make friendships and build relationships If you have actual skills and can show those in a relevant way (build something) You will find a job faster than trying to saturate job postings with applications. Some may get jobs. Most won’t this way Who do you know? Start there. Start having conversations. Start going to events. Build projects. Do the work of a software engineer not a job applicant and people and relationships will work for and with you.

𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗢𝗰𝘁 𝟯𝟬: Submitted my application through the portal without any referral. 𝗡𝗼𝘃 𝟭: Received a technical assessment on Codility. 𝗡𝗼𝘃 𝟭𝟵: Got an email to schedule the virtual full-loop interview, set for Dec 3. This gave me about 15 days to prepare. 𝗗𝗲𝗰 𝟯: Interview Day. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 The virtual full-loop interview lasted from 10:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., consisting of four 45-minute rounds with sufficient breaks in between: 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟭: A technical round consisting of a medium-level Leetcode string problem and a logic puzzle about ropes (though this wasn’t directly part of the interview). 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟮: A cultural fit round with questions about working style preferences and behavioral scenarios. 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟯: A technical round focused on system design, followed by a medium-level Leetcode array question. 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟰: A discussion with the hiring manager, centered on my resume and behavioral aspects. This was a conversational and engaging round that left me feeling optimistic. All of my interviewers were very approachable and supportive, creating a positive atmosphere that made the interview process seamless and enjoyable. 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗪𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱 The recruiter informed me that a decision would take two weeks. Those two weeks felt like an eternity. I found myself constantly refreshing my email, oscillating between hope and doubt. I replayed the interview scenarios in my head, questioning whether I could have done better or if I had made any critical mistakes. This period was an emotional rollercoaster. I found it challenging to quiet the “what if” thoughts and avoid jumping to conclusions. After two weeks of not hearing back, I reached out to one of my interviewers, only to learn that their organization had entered a 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘇𝗲 before completing all the interviews. This news was difficult to process and not the outcome I had hoped for. While the experience was disheartening, I realized that some things are beyond our control, and life doesn’t always go as planned. It took me some time to come to terms with the situation, but I chose to view it as a reminder that timing is everything, and my moment will come soon. This experience taught me an important lesson: 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲. Trust in God and the process, even when the path seems uncertain. The right opportunity will come at the right time. I’m optimistic that 2025 will be a year of growth, learning, and new beginnings and finally land that opportunity we’ve all been working towards. Let’s keep moving forward with faith and determination!

Here are some key steps to help you prepare: 1:Understand the Fundamentals: Brush up on core data structures (arrays, linked lists, trees, graphs) and algorithms (sorting, searching, dynamic programming). These concepts are the foundation of most coding problems. 2: Practice Use platforms like LeetCode, Hacker Rank to solve problems of varying difficulty. Try to time yourself to simulate interview conditions and focus on efficiency. 3: Tech Stack Research the company’s primary tech stack. While you might not use the same tools in the interview, knowing what they work with can help tailor your responses and demonstrate your alignment with their technology. 4: Problem Solving Technical skills are important, but so is demonstrating your problem-solving process and communication skills. Although it's a technical interview, they're likely not just looking for the right answer. They will also want to hear your reasoning and thought process as well. Messenger - Oracle was a clone of DB2 - Workday was a clone of PeopleSoft - MS Dynamics was a clone of Salesforce - All modern contract management software are clones of Ariba Contract Management - HubSpot was a clone of Salesforce - Chrome was a clone of Netscape Navigator And there are many more such examples. The point is that originality is rare. Most ideas are iterations or improvements on existing concepts, aiming to add value. Koo didn't succeed in the competitive market and ran out of funds. Others either executed their strategies well or had sufficient capital to endure and eventually thrive. Success is not guaranteed by the idea alone; it is execution that ensures survival and eventual success. Agree?
