Another secret have come to realize over my few years in broadcasting is… Proper care and maintenance of your broadcast equipment are essential to ensuring smooth and successful productions. When you take the time to care of your gear, it’s like building a relationship with it—your equipment becomes reliable and less likely to fail you when you need it the most. On the other hand, neglecting your equipment can lead to unexpected issues, often at the worst possible moments, like during a live show when there's no room for error. Simple habits, like keeping liquids far away from your gear, regularly cleaning and storing your equipment properly, and performing routine checks, can make all the difference. Remember, your equipment is the backbone of your production. Treat it with care, and it will serve you well.

The News/Media Alliance applauds the passage of New York’s Newspaper and Broadcast Media Jobs Program, providing payroll tax credits for journalists. Starting next year, news entities of all sizes that are based in the State of New York are eligible to benefit from some aspect of the program, including a $5,000 tax credit for each net new journalism job created, and each publication can apply for a tax credit of up to $25,000 for up to 50 percent of an existing full-time journalism salary, up to a total of $300,000 per year per newsroom in refundable tax credits through 2028. Danielle Coffey, President and CEO of the News/Media Alliance stated, “Today is a very good day for journalism, and we applaud the New York State Legislature and Governor Hocul for passing the Newspaper and Broadcast Media Jobs Program, which will provide payroll tax credits for journalists. The program is a shining example of what our industry can do when it unites for a common purpose. We thank the Governor and Legislature for their commitment to sustaining the Fourth Estate, which is necessary to maintaining an informed society and a functional democracy. I hope if your a radio operator, programmer, on-air person, executive you might care to spend 4:00 listening to the highest rated HOT AC radio station in America, Mix 104.1, Boston, it’s simply a 4:00 random break, off air today from the morning show, Carson and Kennedy. If anything it’s a simple reminder of what makes radio work, be reactionary, return profit, it’s anything but simple however Steve Salhaney, the market managing leader of this station understands how local radio is manufactured. It starts with personalities that are from the local station marketplace because that builds relatability, audience loyalty, on n on Somewhere sometime ago Radio lost its edge to be local, not in every market but many moved to a National system, where acquisition was the new system and focus on remaining a homegrown local entity became the old way of doing things. Carson & Kennedy are good for Boston, they get the City, they have friends their, family, they talk about stuff like going to Celtic games, so do many listeners, listening to them. They relate to the Celtics and everything they laugh, and talk about on the air. And it’s ONE of many seismic reasons Mix 104.1 was rated the #1 Hot AC radio station in America. And they have a heck of a Voice guy, 🤮🤮🤮kiiiiding !!! So many people could be the Voice I was just in the rt spot at rt time years ago, that’s not the point here. In 2024 many people lost their jobs in radio. It’s simply because many stations didn’t run their pro team right. In closing, Radio is a combo of local personality, mixed with some cool specialty shows, local info, excellent promotional agendas quarter to quarter, sound programming, pro VO imaging and production, a sales team who sells, and leadership Hopefully 🤞 in 2025 Radio 📻 becomes itself again in a lot of places and Kevin Carter at Ramp Media can start writting about some feel good stories instead of another downsize post.

We are thrilled to announce that WSFL-TV CH39 is now the Official Broadcast Partner of the Florida Panthers, The Stanley Cup Champions. The Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers have signed a multi-year agreement with Scripps Sports to locally broadcast Panthers hockey free for residents of Miami/Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Fort Myers. In Miami/Fort Lauderdale, all locally produced games will air on WSFL-TV, channel 39. In West Palm Beach, all locally produced games will air on WHDT-TV, channel 9. In Fort Myers, Scripps Sports will announce the broadcast channel in advance of next season. Under this new agreement, The E.W. Scripps Company (NASDAQ: SSP) has the ability to televise all locally produced Panthers preseason, regular-season and round one games of the postseason with distribution on cable, satellite and over-the-air television, becoming the new home on television of Florida Panthers hockey. Financial terms will not be disclosed. The deal has obtained the necessary approvals from the National Hockey League. “After back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances and celebrating 30 years of Panthers Hockey in South Florida, we could not be more excited about the future of our hockey team. Scripps’ distribution network and accessibility makes them the ideal partner to stream and carry Panthers content on and off the ice,” said Panthers President and CEO Matthew Caldwell. “Panthers content will be available for free over the air and we are thrilled about the new homes this will reach as we continue to grow our great sport.” Scripps Sports and the Panthers will collaborate to launch a team-branded direct-to-consumer application with details to be announced prior to the 2024-2025 season. This direct-to-consumer application will be the destination for live streaming of all Scripps Sports-produced games throughout the team’s territory in South Florida. Additional details will follow. Scripps Sports, which is now home to the last two Stanley Cup champions, will be responsible for the production of the pregame, in-game and postgame shows. I have observed a significant gap in the representation of roles within the radio industry. While articles often spotlight on-air personalities, program directors, and executives, there is a notable absence of recognition for Creative Directors, Production Directors, Producers, and Engineers. It raises the question - why are these crucial roles overlooked?
