Health care deal volume is holding steady, even with extended timelines and more scrutiny on approvals. Services-led transactions (across ambulatory surgery, infusion, and physician platforms) continue to drive most of the activity. We're seeing more deal structures use earn-outs or minority stakes to manage valuation alignment and regulatory complexity. That flexibility is important, but it doesn't replace the need for a tight integration plan on day one. The difference maker is still execution. Teams that link diligence to operating performance (i.e. throughput, margin, referral flow) are the ones turning deals into durable platforms. #HealthCarePE #DealExecution #ProviderStrategy

I recently joined Matthew Miller and Katie Greifeld on Bloomberg to continue our discussion on required infrastructure to support AI as well as the implications on the American workforce as AI adoption continues. Here are a few important takeaways regarding AI's impact on jobs moving forward: 1. We are on the cusp of a start-up explosion. Never before have tools been at the fingertips of founders to research ideas, construct and host MVPs, develop outward facing sales and marketing materials and motions, and engage customers ... with minimal cost or incremental people. 2. Young people are worried about their professional futures. Most of the conversation has been about how AI will minimize or eliminate entry level and apprentice-based jobs, HOWEVER.... 3. The jobs most at risk are the senior level jobs. AI co-pilots can convert a talented, mid-level person into a near surrogate for a highly seasoned professional because AI can ingest nearly every fact and experience on a profession and deploy that knowledge accurately in the moment. This is the major turning point from a productivity and cost improvement standpoint. For instance, an elite surgeon will amass 40,000 - 50,000 operating room hours across her or his career. Healthcare Ambient AI leader, Artisight, has ingested over 2.5 million hours of surgeries. It provides best practices to surgical clinicians today. Whether improving surgical times and room efficiency for improved productivity or coaching clinicians for better outcomes, Artisight is incredibly well positioned to improve outcomes and margins in hospitals. Tools opportunities in advanced therapies: 3 Critical Challenges to Track Reflections from a great #ISCT conference last week in New Orleans.    Thanks to Phil Vanek and the Commercial Signature Series organizing committee for the invitation to participate.   Together with Richard McFarland, Isaac Haq, and Bryan Poltilove we wrestled with questions about what it will take to scale tools in CGT:   ❔Why are tool solutions lagging in CGT?   ❔Will winning solutions be modular and flexible - or will they be specialized and highly integrated?   Take-aways from our panel: 1️⃣ Timeline compression: the clock is on fast-forward     • Advanced-therapy pipelines scaled far faster than monoclonal antibodies     • Time from first FDA approval to ~600 active programs         – mAbs: ~22 years (first approval 1986 ➜ 600 programs by 2008)         – Viral-vector gene therapy: <7 years (Luxturna approved 2017 ➜ 600 programs by 2024)     👉 Tool makers no longer get a decade of market feedback to adjust 2️⃣ Fragmented & evolutionary space: specs are still a moving target     • mAb solutions took off only after the field converged on humanized IgG-CHO platforms     • “CGT” is more complex & highly fragmented—tomorrow’s cell type, vector, or payload could rewrite today’s key needs      👉 Modular, flexible solutions will remain critical enablers beyond single-purpose optimization 3️⃣ The traditional “scale-then-efficiency” playbook is flipped     • mAbs: scaled up first (10 000 L+ stainless batches) while driving parallel titer gains (100x over 2 decades), which unlocked smaller single-use batches     • CGT: must “scale out” to succeed —many therapies rely on small or even single-patient (autologous) batches; unit economics have to work now     👉 COGS must drop to unlock viable “scale-out” manufacturing—not the other way around  What could accelerate tools development in advanced therapies? We posed questions for stakeholders to consider a) Regulators: Where will agencies codify core guidance for critical parameters, giving suppliers the confidence to invest? b) Suppliers: Could the industry support modularity and flexibility by agreeing on select standardized interfaces—“USB-C” for CGT —while still competing on other performance dimensions?   c) Biopharma sponsors: Would innovators with similar needs be prepared to pool demand or issue purchase commitments to support the next generation of fit-for-purpose tools development?     More reflections from ISCT to come this week   #ISCT #Biopharma #CellandGeneTherapy #LifeScienceTools
