Lightning Web Security (LWS) is an evolution of Salesforce's previous security layer, Lightning Locker. For a while, Lightning Locker was the standard security mechanism for protecting Lightning Web Components (LWC) and Aura components from untrusted code. LWS expands on these protective capabilities while also simplifying the developer experience. It provides isolation for each namespace's JavaScript while still allowing for secure cross-namespace interactions when necessary. This security model modifies how scripts load and interact, ensuring that malicious or poorly written code cannot escape its designated namespace or interfere with unrelated components. Moving to LWS brings a lot of benefits for developers and the platform itself: ✅ 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: Developers will find fewer unnatural restrictions, less rewriting for standard JavaScript APIs, and easier debugging. LWS aligns more closely with native web APIs, so you'll find fewer "Locker workarounds" are needed. ✅ 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: Optimized security checks under the hood can lead to more efficient script execution. ✅ 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Script isolation is more intuitive, allowing your LWC components to operate safely in their own environment. ✅ 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢-𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐬: If your org or managed packages rely on cross-namespace component communication, LWS fosters a more flexible environment while still ensuring strong security boundaries. ✅ 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞-𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠: Salesforce is gradually deprecating older security models, and adopting LWS early positions your components for compatibility with the platform's forward path. To get started, it's recommended to enable LWS in a sandbox first and verify that your LWC components function correctly.
