"Gamification," like "Community," has been stretched, misinterpreted, and burned as a term. 🎲❤️🔥 At its core, it's about motivating and rewarding members for their valuable contributions to your community. Many community builders jump straight to handing out physical swag, but there's a lot you can do from a digital, scalable, and free perspective. There are a lot of people that are skeptical of gamification in communities, and probably with some good reason. But, it is motivating to a specific set of members and does drive engagement when done properly. It's a vital component of a successful community strategy.

The trickiest part is creating a strategy that feels rewarding for different participants. In gaming you’re looking for a system that rewards casual gamers and they feel that the rewards are attainable. And hardcore gamers don’t churn through rewards too quickly!
