Last week we announced our 2.3M EUR seed round and are overwhelmed and grateful by the response and kind words 🤩
As researchers, founders Markus Löschenbrand and Simon Risanger noticed that the increased uncertainty, complexity, and speed in power systems caused by the energy transition required new tools for analytics.
We took a leap into the unknown and decided to be the ones who could make state-of-the-art research quickly accessible and user-friendly for everyone who faces these challenges.
A defining trait of Versiro is to combine scientific rigor with startup speed. In a bit over two years, several of the largest power producers in Norway use our software daily and we are preparing to expand international.
This brings Versiro to a new chapter where we are incredibly pleased to get Jørgen Kildahl as our new chairman and have Arne Tonning and Alliance VC lead our seed, with participation from Sondo Capital, former E.ON CEO Johannes Teyssen, Fortress Fund, Hans Geelmuyden, Draum founder Dag-Inge Aas, Superside founder Fredrik Thomassen, and Enode founders Henrik Langeland and Nikolai Heum, among others.
Building something from nothing is challenging and requires focus and dedicated work. It’s therefore fun and motivating when this work is acknowledged like last week, where leading media outlets international, national, and in our industry shared our story:

“Sheffield is fast becoming the best place in Europe for startups” serial tech entrepreneur Stan Boland tells 32 founders at The Bessemer Society dinner in Neepsend, Sheffield.
What a brilliant evening. Stan’s story was terrifying and inspiring in equal measure. Being caught in the tsunami of the 2008 global financial crash on the cusp of a deal was the terrifying bit. Inspiring was the relentless refusal to quit, to lose ground or accept defeat.
Alongside this was the need for big ambitions and spending quality time in America, whose energy, entrepreneurialism and experience are unparalleled on the planet.
Stan told the other 32 founders at the dinner of his move to Acorn Computers in 1997 which was ultimately spun-out as Element 14 ( Silicon in the Periodic Table) and acquired by Broadcom three years later for $640 million. In 2002 he co-founded Icera, acquired by NVIDIA nine years later for $367 million.
Dr Tony Raven, creator of Cambridge Innovation Capital, which now has over $1Bn of assets under its management, gently reminded us that the the truly big tech players in the world were not the products of incubators, accelerators, combinators, but of visionary individuals; entrepreneurs who saw markets where none yet existed.
Under Tony’s leadership Cambridge spinouts increased 250%, seed investment by by 750% and consultancy by 90% leading to four unicorns.
Like Stan — who said the quality of start ups in the room outmatched those in Leeds and Manchester - Tony also felt there was something special happening in Sheffield.
Without doubt there was a real energy in the room last night and an appetite to harness that energy and be ambitious. Folks like the irrepressible Tim Craggs, Thomas Bloomfield and Thomas Milton and the brilliant Benjamin White. Thanks
to The Bessemer Society founder Alex Stewart, David Richards MBE, Stan Boland and Tony Raven for lighting their way.

Exciting times ahead…

The 2023 Atomico's State of European Tech Report revealed Netherlands to be a standout success, cementing its position as a star player in the startup ecosystem. In terms of capital invested in its private tech companies, for instance, it’s risen back into the top five countries with a projected $2.1 billion. And while the UK has seen the share of its European capital invested drop by almost 3 percent within the past three years, the Netherlands comes out top, capturing the biggest gains in Eu...

To achieve scale, deep tech startups must learn to talk business!
It's inspiring to witness the increasing number of startups emerging from DTU - Technical University of Denmark and their potential to significantly shape the future.
During an engaging panel discussion at the DTU Startup Day two weeks ago, Tommy Ahlers, Anna Lundin, and Anders Kjær highlighted that - while software has significantly facilitated scalability - investments in deep tech are essential to successfully navigate the green transition.
Yet, only a few deep tech founders manage to bring their technology to scale, as their scientific mindset often leads to an overly narrow focus on the technology, even though investors like PreSeed Ventures, Norrsken VC, and Look Up Ventures consider the commercial side equally important.
The term 'commercial' thereby extends beyond simply hiring the first salesperson. It involves market engagement from day one and securing offtake agreements, which are crucial for unlocking financing pools beyond traditional venture capital and ultimately achieving scale.
The message is clear: Europe - and DTU! - are well equipped with great deep tech ventures. To scale their pledges, however, we need more bold and ambitious founders capable of talking business.
Last week was big as we welcomed three, that’s right three, new companies into the National Grid Partners family!
👏 Please give a warm welcome to Captura, Luminance, and Transcend! 🎉

📈 Estonia aims to have 500 deep tech companies by 2030. Singapore, which is the size of Hiiumaa - a small island in Estonia - already boasts 1,200 deep tech startups.
Latitude59 2024's panel discussion “It’s About Time to Deep Tech! Vision: Nordic Tech Valley” explored the ways to meet the goal:
👉 “Unlike software solutions, deep tech cannot be created in 24 hours and requires a lot of capital. This is why it is crucial to activate the private sector and large corporations and create a functioning deep tech ecosystem,” shared Clara Chen, Co-founder of the Singapore Deep-Tech Alliance (SDTA).
👉 "We need to make our cross-border initiatives more visible by grouping them under a common framework,” added Eve Peeterson, the Head of Startup Estonia, outlining one of the key objectives of creating the Nordic Deep Tech Valley.
