There are so many new and exciting ways to really prove community ROI than the methods we’ve been using for so long. 🤑 Over the past decade, there have been so many great innovations in how we build and develop our communities. Yet our methods for measuring community ROI are trapped in the late 00s. 👎 These methods are often primitive, inaccurate and contain obvious flaws. The only reason they’re still in use is: → 1. They’re easy to calculate. They trade precision for simplicity. →2. They often show high ROI. The methods are often created by vendors who want to show the biggest possible ROI. But our methods to prove value shouldn’t rest on the audience being statistically illiterate. If your argument for community ROI crumbles when someone asks: >>>> “How do you know the community isn’t just attracting people who already spend/do more?” 🤔 <<<< Then you need a better method…. And thankfully there are so many to choose from! Today we have access to more tools and data than ever. We should be using this to find innovative, robust, techniques to prove our worth. Over the past few years, we’ve invested a huge amount of time, energy, and resources to do more to innovate here. We’ve gathered, analysed, and combined dozens of datasets - running into all the usual problems in the process. Over that time we’ve gradually built our approaches we believe are a LOT more robust than what’s often used today.  🚀 We’ve highlighted some of the common issues and solutions in this image. It’s meant to be illustrative more than comprehensive. It doesn’t cover all the goals or all the methods for measuring those goals (or problems with them). But it hopefully gives you a flavour of what’s possible here. → I suspect there is a direct relationship between the quality of your methods to prove community ROI and the level of support you receive. 🙏 If we want to be taken seriously, then we need to get serious about removing the common flaws in the current methods we’re using. The best thing about these approaches is it they don’t involve too much more work than you’re already investing. It just means tackling the common flaws with slightly more advanced techniques. ✅ No method will be 100% perfect, but there is a vast continuum of opportunity between perfection and the primitive efforts we’ve been stuck with for over a decade. If you like and enjoy the methods you’ve been using, then by all means stick with it, but if you want to upgrade your methods - drop us a line. Let’s develop a robust approach that really shows the value you’re creating. High-res version of the graphic in the usual place 👇 #community #communitymanagement #roi
