However, some say that it's safer to replace the timing belt even earlier than the manufacturer recommends. Think the GTF is alone with its problems? Think again. Early LEAP shop visit wave inbound. Our latest weekly newsletter offers a peak behind the curtain on some of our engine research. The LEAP-1 engine may not have the hard limits of the PW1000, but it's not staying on wing much longer. Why? Thermal coatings, eroding EGT margin, oh and remember that contaminated titanium powdered metal? But LEAP retains one clear benefit according to operators: at least it's not a GTF. Beyond that, it's difficult to see through the deep frustration of the operators. As a result, a wave of early shop visits are arriving for the LEAP-1A/1B at a time when shop capacity is already constrained.
