How do you separate a great data partner from a provider with a good sales deck? I explore some of the key questions to ask in this article. Wednesday's Wordle (The New York Times) introduced many people to a word that's now rarely seen outside historical writing: pshaw. Dating back to the early 17th century, pshaw is an interjection used to express contempt, impatience, or disgust, or to dismiss a statement, essentially the linguistic equivalent of waving away an idea with a "...oh, nonsense." Its scarcity is something that particularly drew a lot of comments online, as frequency data from the OED entry shows pshaw typically occurs only 0.02 times per million words in modern written English. The word is now considered largely archaic, often appearing in historical writing or used humorously for effect. Had you come across pshaw before Wednesday's Wordle, or was it a new one? Explore its history in the OED entry: https://oxford.ly/4pqDoc8
