We supported Genesis in delivering Aotearoa New Zealand’s newest grid-scale battery. The 100MW / 200MWh Huntly Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is set to power 60,000 homes during peak demand.      As detailed design partner, we provided multidisciplinary expertise across civil, structural, electrical and control systems to help bring this landmark project to life. Our team led the integration design across the site, from 220kV grid interface to auxiliary systems and fire protection, helping Genesis fast-track delivery in a dynamic and evolving environment.      A major milestone in New Zealand’s renewable energy journey that will help keep the lights on, the Huntly BESS will store solar energy, reduce reliance on fossil fuels and provide critical stability to the grid.      Read more about the project: https://acm.to/D86E

Milestone for pumped hydro energy storage in New South Wales! In partnership with WSP in Australia, we’ve supported WaterNSW to shortlist three sites for potential new pumped hydro energy storage projects. The sites shortlisted are Blowering, Burrendong and Hume, following pre-feasibility studies that assessed terrain, geotechnical conditions, environmental factors and grid connectivity. Together, with WaterNSW projects already underway, these new sites could help bring up to 5.2 GW of additional pumped hydro energy storage to the NSW market by 2034. Read more about how we’re supporting these studies: https://acm.to/UsHM

Congratulations to Heidi Sick, Managing Director - Energy, who last night received the Swinburne University of Technology's 2025 Alumni Innovative Planet Impact Award.  The award recognises Heidi’s extraordinary impact on Australia’s clean energy transition.  A particularly proud moment for Heidi was having her two sons in the audience. They saw their mum recognised for her leadership in building a cleaner, fairer and more sustainable world for them to grow up in.    "My purpose has always been clear: to create a more sustainable and equitable energy future. I’m truly honoured to receive this award, and I want to recognise all the brilliant people I have had the privilege to work alongside in Australia’s clean energy transition,” said Heidi. Check out the flashback of Heidi graduating from Swinburne!

How do those designing and building our future really feel about the state of New Zealand's infrastructure and building construction? Yesterday, we launched our 2025 sentiment survey report: A picture of what’s really happening on the ground from respondents across government, contractors, consultants and developers in New Zealand. The verdict? The sector is cautiously hopeful. We’ve climbed out of the 2024 slump, but there are still some serious gaps between what we want to build and what we can deliver. Thank you to our special guests Christopher Bishop, Sarah Sinclair, Fraser Wyllie and Hannah Ockelford for your insights at our launch event.  Unpack the report here: https://acm.to/KwYw

Our latest People Spotlight features Daniel Charbonneau, a reconciliation project manager from our Canada region.   A proud Anishinaabe Algonquin, Daniel has over 30 years of experience in Indigenous relations. His expertise spans Indigenous business partnerships, major projects consultation, and modern treaty negotiation. He’s leveraged this full skill set for his recent work on the Alto railway link between Quebec and Toronto, where he’s integrating community needs and building social value.   “This work has led to increased capacity building, employment and training opportunities, which are helping sustain long-term benefits within local communities,” he writes. “My goal is to ensure that the project not only respects Indigenous rights and traditions but also leaves a lasting, positive legacy for future generations.”   Discover how he’s supporting economic participation and socio-economic benefits for Indigenous peoples: https://acm.to/2uC6   #AECOM #AECOMIndigenousEngagement
