Manual vs. digital marking for toric intraocular lenses (IOLs): Which is more accurate? See the study summary in this video from the #Alcon #GlobalMedicalAffairs team, featuring Dr. Rom Kandavel: ➡️https://bit.ly/3KUCy7p⬅️ Whether surgeons are using manual tools like the Mendez marker in combination with the toriCam or digital systems, such as the VERION® Digital Marker (DMM) using the registration image from the ARGOS® Biometer, intraoperative marking and alignment are crucial for ensuring precise refractive outcomes for patients with astigmatism after #CataractSurgery. In the recent Comparative Study of Digital Intraoperative Toric Alignment Versus the Toric Cam Marker, Dr. Kandavel analyzed the real and potential postoperative results of these technologies, respectively. He found that the digital marking system resulted in a statistically significant reduction in residual astigmatism and average alignment error compared to manual marking. How does the micro-monovision approach impact visual outcomes after #CataractSurgery? Watch the study summary with Dr. Dagny Zhu on #AlconScience.com to find out ➡️ https://bit.ly/48Abqog ⬅️ CLAREON® Vivity® extended-depth-of-focus intraocular lenses (EDOF IOLs) are designed to minimize the incidence of visual disturbances while providing good distance and intermediate and functional near vision. Some surgeons seek to further increase that range of vision — as well as spectacle independence — by implanting slightly myopic in the non-dominant eye. Dr. Zhu evaluated the effects of this micro-monovision technique in a recent study: Visual Outcomes and Patient Satisfaction after Bilateral Implantation of a Non-diffractive EDOF IOL Made of an Advanced Hydrophobic Acrylic Material. She implanted CLAREON® Vivity® IOLs, targeting plano in the dominant eye and -0.25D in the non-dominant eye. The results: 3 months post-op, excellent ~20/20 binocular uncorrected distance and intermediate VA ,and ~20/25 uncorrected near VA with low incidence of visual disturbances. Check out the full video from the #Alcon #GlobalMedicalAffairs team via the link above to learn about patient satisfaction, visual disturbance and spectacle independence outcomes. #MedicalAffairs #ClinicalStudy

In September, we were proud to join leaders in #Ophthalmology from around the world at The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS). Our team was excited to share 45 Alcon-supported abstracts — showcasing a strong scientific program and continuing to advance ophthalmic science through clinical collaboration and innovation. This year, 5 standout presentations drew strong interest, highlighting important advances in Refractive Surgery, Cataract Equipment & Diagnostics, and Intraocular Lenses (IOLs): ✅ Near Physiologic Intraoperative IOP Versus High IOP During Cataract Surgery and Its Impact on Patients: A series of Postmarket Comparative Studies - Dr Matthew Rauen ✅ Higher-Order Aberrations After Ray-Tracing-Guided Vs. Wavefront-Optimized Laser In Situ Keratomileusis: Contralateral-Eye Comparison- Dr. Ramin Khoramnia ✅ Prospective Intraindividual Comparison Of Functional Outcomes After Automated Customized Ray-Tracing-Guided Vs. Wavefront-Optimized Laser In Situ Keratomileusis - Dr. Ramin Khoramnia ✅ Visual Performance Of An Extended Depth Of Focus Intraocular Lens In Eyes With Low To Moderate Irregular Astigmatism - Dr. Daniel Schartmüller ✅ Less Discomfort And Less Pharmacology: Cataract Surgery At Physiologic Intraocular Pressure - The Patient Experience - Dr. Matthew Rauen These insights continue to drive progress towards a stronger future in ophthalmic care. Dr. Dagny Zhu, a leading ophthalmologist at NVISION Eye Centers in Rowland Heights, California — recognized for her expertise in refractive cataract surgery — introduces a recent study evaluating the visual outcomes and satisfaction after contralateral implantation of a trifocal and non-diffractive EDOF IOL made of advanced hydrophobic acrylic. Watch the study summary here: ➡️ https://bit.ly/3KT7rcz ⬅️ Many patients who desire spectacle independence after #CataractSurgery face a key decision: whether to choose an extended-depth-of-focus intraocular lens (EDOF IOL) designed to minimize visual disturbances or a trifocal IOL that prioritizes a full range of vision. Recently, some surgeons have begun taking a “mix-and-match” approach, implanting one of each to achieve the best of both worlds. The study analyzes visual outcomes after contralateral implantation of CLAREON® Vivity® and CLAREON® PanOptix® IOLs. The results? 100%, 98%, and 90% of subjects achieved binocular uncorrected visual acuities of 20/25 or better at distance, intermediate, and near, respectively — with low rates of visual disturbances and high patient satisfaction. #DryEye disease (DED) is a complex condition affecting more than 38 million people in the United States. It is characterized by tear deficiency, which may lead to signs of DED such as tear instability and ocular surface damage, and symptoms like dryness, irritation, and intermittent blur Learn more about the science behind DED at https://bit.ly/3IKmtAN

Patients who have previously had #RefractiveSurgery are often highly driven to maintain spectacle independence after #CataractSurgery. As Dr. Morgan Micheletti points out in this study summary video (https://bit.ly/4hy78QN), some multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) may cause visual disturbances that result in disappointment rather than delight. Can non-diffractive extended-depth-of-focus (EDOF) IOLs deliver high satisfaction along with the reduced spectacle usage these patients desire? The study — titled Satisfaction and Visual Outcomes with an EDOF IOL in Post-Myopic LASIK and PRK Patients — addresses this very topic. It analyzes distance, intermediate and near vision, as well as visual disturbances and patient satisfaction after bilateral implantation of AcrySof® IQ or Clareon® Vivity® EDOF IOLs from #Alcon.
