How many mobile devices can claim that they’re actually good at allowing me to login into Grandma’s computer to inspect her Windows’ problems? Not many (does Android have anything spectacular?). There are two versions of TeamViewer in the App Store, one being free, and the other being one hundred dollars. I’m focusing on the free version, specifically because it’s most likely all you need for personal use - accessing your private computers or to help friends/family (this is straight from the TeamViewer page people).

So how’s setup with TeamViewer? Do I have to install anything? Do I have to mess with IP addresses? Not at all. If you visit TeamViewer’s download’s page, there’s downloads for QuickSupport that don’t even require an install (though I think it’s optional). All you have to do is email the executable or disk image to your favorite Windows or Mac using lover, and they can simply run it. That user will be presented with an ID and a Password they’ll have to share with you, and then you’re ready to go.

TeamViewer is an excellent, simple Remote Desktop application. You have your mouse clicks available, the ability to zoom in and out of the desktop, a standard keyboard, and if you shake your iPhone, you can switch between multiple monitors (whoa). With both portrait and landscape modes available, you’ll be comfortable in any orientation.

The keyboard itself is quite nice, as it sports all of your modifier keys. While the eject button threw me off (I thought it replicated the eject keyboard button), it simply returns access to the desktop.

TeamViewer is particularly fast on on the iPhone 3GS, but is a little laggy on older devices. It’ll work with your first gen iPod touch, but keep in mind you’re going to have to wait for things to render on your screen.

If you want a free solution that’s dead simple to use and make connections with, look no further than TeamViewer. With the ability to track recent connections, you can also reconnect without having to re-enter the ID and Pass (though the ID & Pass might change if downloaded again).
