HOW TO VIDEO:
Materials Needed To Make Plastic Cup Snow Globe Ornaments
- Free character templates (cut-out designs)
- 18-ounce plastic cups (important for best fit – we used THESE when testing)
- Blue cardstock (for the base)
- Red ribbon (for a decorative top bow)
- Snow filler and confetti (for the snow effect- can also use white mini pom poms for a less mess option!)
- Colored pencils (to color characters)
- Hot glue gun and clear Elmer’s glue (adults only)
How To Make Plastic Cup Snow Globe Ornaments
Step 1: Prepare the Character Cut-Outs
- Print and color your chosen character templates.
- Carefully cut along the outline of each character, leaving a small tab at the bottom.
- Fold the tab over; this will allow the characters to stand upright inside the snow globe.
Step 2: Create the Snow Globe Base
- Use one of the cups as a tracer to outline a circle on the blue cardstock, then cut it out.
- Cut the cardstock circle slightly larger than the cup’s rim to ensure a snug fit.
- Glue the characters to the cardstock base by attaching the folded tabs, allowing each character to stand up.
Step 3: Add Snow and Seal the Cup
- Sprinkle a small amount of snow filler and confetti around the characters on the blue cardstock.
- Carefully apply a thin line of hot glue around the rim of the plastic cup.
- Quickly and carefully press the cup onto the cardstock base, sealing the snow and characters inside.
Pro Tip: If you notice any gaps where confetti might fall out, run a thin line of clear Elmer’s glue around the outside of the base to seal it.
Step 4: Decorate with a Ribbon
- Cut a piece of red ribbon and tie it into a bow.Glue the bow to the top of the cup for a festive finishing touch.
Tips for Success:
- Use 18-ounce cups: These work best for fitting the characters and creating a sturdy snow globe.
- Limit the snow filler: Too much filler can cover up your characters, so add sparingly for a balanced look.
- Less Mess Option: in our video we show using white mini pom poms which is a fun options for littles and households that don’t love glittery feathery snow
- Seal carefully: Hot glue works best for quick bonding, while clear Elmer’s glue can provide extra reinforcement if needed.
