Today:

A cloudy start for many with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. A spell of heavy showery rain will move into the south through the day with brighter spells at times. Outbreaks of rain continuing in the north.

Tonight:

Staying cloudy with further outbreaks of rain. Mild in the south, but chilly in the north, with snow over Scottish hills.

Wednesday:

Staying largely cloudy with outbreaks of rain for most. Fairly windy and cold in the north, but lighter winds and milder in the south.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Unsettled at first with further outbreaks of rain. Turning colder from Friday with a chance of snow showers, particularly in the north. Dry, cold and sunny for many on Saturday.

After a briefly quieter spell, associated with some colder conditions, Atlantic frontal zones look to make a return near the start of this period. The track of these depressions may be a little further north than over the preceding weeks, but will continue to bring broadly unsettled weather to many areas, with further spells of rain and perhaps strong winds at times. With the westerly influence, it should become somewhat milder for many, though there remains the chance that colder conditions could affect northern and northeastern parts from time to time.

Broadly changeable conditions are expected across the UK during this period. Low pressure systems will probably dominate, meaning showers or longer spells of rain, heavy at times, for much of the UK, and still the chance of some hill snow in the north. Some drier interludes are likely, though it must be said, flooding impacts remain possible given recent very wet weather. Windy conditions look probable from time to time. Temperatures probably close to or a little above average overall, with a reduced chance, compared to earlier thinking, of a late season prolonged cold spell.
