Board gaming on Friday nights in Sherman Oaks
Board gaming on Friday nights in Sherman Oaks
Friday Night Board Gaming (formerly Friday Night Dice) is a meetup for everyone who likes board games. And if you’re new to board games, our friendly gamers are happy to teach you how to play. We play basic European board games like Settlers of Catan, Ticket To Ride, etc., and more advanced games like Suburbia, Power Grid, Terraforming Mars, and Railways of the World. Also war games & card games. We bring lots of games, but you’re free to bring your own! We used to game at LASFS (Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society) in Van Nuys. However, as that organization sold its building we have moved to Paper Hero's and Games, a game store in Sherman Oaks, and we continue to meet every Friday late afternoon and evening. We share the gaming space with a large group of Magic the Gathering players but we easily have room for between 10 to 20 board gamers who usually show up for board games. Most of these gamers are regulars who just don't bother to RSVP as this is a store open to all comers and requiring a Yes RSVP is not feasible as we are often joined by store customers who see what we are doing and ask to join in - and we always say YES! (As most gamers do not bother to RSVP, quite often our home page will just show me as the only attendee even though we may have almost 2 dozen gamers at our tables. So, if the home page shows just 1 person attending, pay no attention to that as we may very well have full house of gamers.) So come on down and get your gaming fix this Friday at the friendly and comfortable game store. We have beginners and advanced gamers, so everyone is welcome.
Ten+ Tennis Tune-Up 3.5* NTRP
Ten+ Tennis Tune-Up 3.5* NTRP
During During spring and milder weather this hour is reserved for private party . Feel free to check with me offseason if you don't mind the Heat. Also if there is no group the fee for a private hour is $40. Thanks for your understanding. What makes this workout different? For most players, it is the ability to master net play as well as enhancin g the ground-strokes to create 'all-court' game, coverage, control, balance, finesse, flexibility, ... altogether low-impact (on the joints) effective play. Here is a little information on my background. I have been coaching tennis for well over two decades. When the 'tennis powers that be' decided to turn our graceful, exciting sport into a boring baseline slug fest, tossing out the classic backhand with the bathwater, I resisted and have trained countless players in the traditional fundamentals of tennis which lead to effortless all-court coverage, accuracy, variety, finesse and power... About 50% of our focus over the decades has been on the 'Inner Game' which creates the perfect balance to our workouts. Side benefits for those who follow my guidance are greatly decreased incidence of tennis related injuries. I am a 'player-coach', and have never experienced more than an occasional minor strain that clears up within minutes to hours usually, but always fewer than 48 hours. You can check the >More >Discussions >Message Board for a couple of threads on things like tendonitis plus an excellent find on the importance of good body chemistry called 'Be Healthy Now'. Check this out! Table of contents for the "Who was teaching what where when" upcoming tennis history, in which I am said to be featured in chapter 1 and chapter 4. https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/8665ae_77f1c103ab7a40e2a5c0c43dd44198cc.pdf Final draft copies were distributed to tennis officials of the USTA and other tennis governing bodies at the recent US Open by its historian author. New publication date for all to see is April 2020. Anyone that attends my workouts with an open mind, ready to possibly look at their game from a slightly different perspective is usually pleasantly surprised. I think you will be as well! For future reference please contact me directly and early if you are interested in this event. This Meetup has contingencies, for instance it may not happen if the workout that precedes it isn't happening, and it probably will not happen if there is only one confirmation unless we convert it to 'Your private hour. (40$/hour, however, there is a non-meetup member and friend who attends most weeks and this hour is listed on our sister Meetup, thus a very good chance that this will be a group as the maximum is just four, really three because MU includes me in the count.) If you don't have my phone number, you may be in touch with me through Meetup message or email. I only exchange phone numbers via email. Please give me minimum 24 hour notice if you are interested. Skill level is usually 3.5 plus or minus... Thanks for checking!'

Left leaning politics are a focus. I know that having Chinese food every week may be boring to some people, but here are the reasons why I'm keeping this location: * Free parking * Reasonably priced * Separate checks * A really nice conference room * Great location * More new people from other parts of the city * 10 minutes from Brentwood in the middle of the day. The salads are good, or come and just have tea if you don't want Chinese food. Check out menu at [https://order.pfchangs.com](https://order.pfchangs.com/)\|

Young Meditators Bi-Monthly Gathering
Young Meditators Bi-Monthly Gathering
The Young Meditators Group is a gathering of young people in their 20s and 30s interested in exploring the path of meditation in a supportive and engaging setting. We gather to foster camaraderie, meditate, learn together, and support each other on and off the cushion so we may engage with our world with confidence and authenticity. The gathering includes 30 minutes of meditation, an activity, discussion, and socializing. The group activity rotates between book readings, yoga, art making, and other forms of expression. All are welcome! No prior meditation experience is necessary. We provide oral group meditation instructions at the beginning of every session. Feel free to bring a friend :) This is an opportunity to connect with a community of fellow meditators and share in our experience as young people trying to live more sanely while still taking in all our city has to offer. NOTE: OUR GATHERINGS HAVE 10+ ATTENDEES ON A WEEKLY BASIS. MOST DO NOT RSVP VIA MEETUP. “Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts. Whenever your mind becomes scattered, use your breath as the means to take hold of your mind again.” ― Thích Nhat Hanh, The Miracle of Mindfulness: An Introduction to the Practice of Meditation

May Soul & Sip Book Club ✨ 📚
**Soul & Sip Book Club - Fifth Gathering** **Book: *The Untethered Soul* by Michael Singer** We’re excited to invite you to our next Soul & Sip gathering! In ***The Untethered Soul*, Michael Singer** explores the voice inside our heads — the constant inner narrator — and guides readers toward a deeper awareness beyond that voice. With simple yet profound insights, he invites us to loosen our attachment to thoughts and emotions so we can experience greater freedom, peace, and openness in everyday life. **What to Expect** Our evening will be cozy, reflective, and engaging. Together, we’ll: ✨ reconnect and welcome new faces ✨ explore key themes from ***The Untethered Soul*** ✨ share personal insights, reflections, and experiences ✨ discuss how guidance, intuition, and awareness show up in our lives ✨ sip something comforting and enjoy meaningful community Expect **thoughtful discussion + personal reflection + laughter + good vibes**. **Agenda (Approx 1.5 Hours)** **7:00–7:10** — Arrivals, welcome, and settle in **7:10–7:25** — Check-in & icebreaker (share a recent moment of insight or guidance) **7:25–8:05** — Book discussion & guided reflection prompts **8:05–8:20** — Key takeaways, practices, and reflections to bring home **8:20–8:30** — Announcements, next book, and host rotation **Discussion Themes We'll Explore** * When do you notice your inner voice being the loudest? * What does it mean to “observe” your thoughts instead of identifying with them? * Where in your life do you feel emotionally “closed,” and what might opening look like? * How do attachments to preferences, control, or outcomes shape your stress? * What would living as your “untethered” self feel like in daily life? No preparation is required — just bring your thoughts, questions, and willingness to engage. **What to Bring** ✔ Your copy of ***The Untethered Soul*** (physical or e-book) ✔ Any notes, highlights, or reflections you’d like to share ✔ Your favorite drink to sip (tea, coffee, sparkling water, or wine!) ✔ An open heart, curiosity, and good vibes Optional: a notebook for journaling insights or reflections **Location & RSVP** **Address will be shared upon RSVP.** **Space is limited** to keep the gathering cozy and intimate — please RSVP early to reserve your spot. Look for the **Soul & Sip sign** when you arrive! **Final Note** This is a **welcoming, no-pressure space** — introverts, extroverts, reflective listeners, and thoughtful sharers are all invited. Whether you read the whole book or just part of it, your presence is valued and your voice matters. We can’t wait to gather, explore guidance, and continue building our Soul & Sip community together. **See you there!**
