Left leaning politics are a focus. I know that having Chinese food every week may be boring to some people, but here are the reasons why I'm keeping this location: * Free parking * Reasonably priced * Separate checks * A really nice conference room * Great location * More new people from other parts of the city * 10 minutes from Brentwood in the middle of the day. The salads are good, or come and just have tea if you don't want Chinese food. Check out menu at [https://order.pfchangs.com](https://order.pfchangs.com/)\|
Board gaming on Friday nights in Sherman Oaks
Board gaming on Friday nights in Sherman Oaks
Friday Night Board Gaming (formerly Friday Night Dice) is a meetup for everyone who likes board games. And if you’re new to board games, our friendly gamers are happy to teach you how to play. We play basic European board games like Settlers of Catan, Ticket To Ride, etc., and more advanced games like Suburbia, Power Grid, Terraforming Mars, and Railways of the World. Also war games & card games. We bring lots of games, but you’re free to bring your own! We used to game at LASFS (Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society) in Van Nuys. However, as that organization sold its building we have moved to Paper Hero's and Games, a game store in Sherman Oaks, and we continue to meet every Friday late afternoon and evening. We share the gaming space with a large group of Magic the Gathering players but we easily have room for between 10 to 20 board gamers who usually show up for board games. Most of these gamers are regulars who just don't bother to RSVP as this is a store open to all comers and requiring a Yes RSVP is not feasible as we are often joined by store customers who see what we are doing and ask to join in - and we always say YES! (As most gamers do not bother to RSVP, quite often our home page will just show me as the only attendee even though we may have almost 2 dozen gamers at our tables. So, if the home page shows just 1 person attending, pay no attention to that as we may very well have full house of gamers.) So come on down and get your gaming fix this Friday at the friendly and comfortable game store. We have beginners and advanced gamers, so everyone is welcome.
Ten+ Tennis Tune-Up 3.5* NTRP
Ten+ Tennis Tune-Up 3.5* NTRP
During During spring and milder weather this hour is reserved for private party . Feel free to check with me offseason if you don't mind the Heat. Also if there is no group the fee for a private hour is $40. Thanks for your understanding. What makes this workout different? For most players, it is the ability to master net play as well as enhancin g the ground-strokes to create 'all-court' game, coverage, control, balance, finesse, flexibility, ... altogether low-impact (on the joints) effective play. Here is a little information on my background. I have been coaching tennis for well over two decades. When the 'tennis powers that be' decided to turn our graceful, exciting sport into a boring baseline slug fest, tossing out the classic backhand with the bathwater, I resisted and have trained countless players in the traditional fundamentals of tennis which lead to effortless all-court coverage, accuracy, variety, finesse and power... About 50% of our focus over the decades has been on the 'Inner Game' which creates the perfect balance to our workouts. Side benefits for those who follow my guidance are greatly decreased incidence of tennis related injuries. I am a 'player-coach', and have never experienced more than an occasional minor strain that clears up within minutes to hours usually, but always fewer than 48 hours. You can check the >More >Discussions >Message Board for a couple of threads on things like tendonitis plus an excellent find on the importance of good body chemistry called 'Be Healthy Now'. Check this out! Table of contents for the "Who was teaching what where when" upcoming tennis history, in which I am said to be featured in chapter 1 and chapter 4. https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/8665ae_77f1c103ab7a40e2a5c0c43dd44198cc.pdf Final draft copies were distributed to tennis officials of the USTA and other tennis governing bodies at the recent US Open by its historian author. New publication date for all to see is April 2020. Anyone that attends my workouts with an open mind, ready to possibly look at their game from a slightly different perspective is usually pleasantly surprised. I think you will be as well! For future reference please contact me directly and early if you are interested in this event. This Meetup has contingencies, for instance it may not happen if the workout that precedes it isn't happening, and it probably will not happen if there is only one confirmation unless we convert it to 'Your private hour. (40$/hour, however, there is a non-meetup member and friend who attends most weeks and this hour is listed on our sister Meetup, thus a very good chance that this will be a group as the maximum is just four, really three because MU includes me in the count.) If you don't have my phone number, you may be in touch with me through Meetup message or email. I only exchange phone numbers via email. Please give me minimum 24 hour notice if you are interested. Skill level is usually 3.5 plus or minus... Thanks for checking!'

CBS Film Series presents "Sheitel"
CBS Film Series presents "Sheitel"
In Europe during the Middle Ages Christian women covered their hair. During the 16th and 17th centuries wigs were worn by royalty, and associated with high status and high fashion. In the 60s and 70s the wig enjoyed a revival thanks in part to a large fashionista market. Filmed in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Canada and Jerusalem, Sheitel traces the historical and spiritual roots of hair covering for married women in Judaism, its evolving interpretations, and its misconceptions. Scenes from Jerusalem reveal how head coverings act as markers of faith and empowerment not only for Jewish, but Christian and Muslim women as well. Additionally, the film offers a rare look into the global wig industry. Let's Chat In Spanish and English!
This is a conversational meeting for both English speakers and Spanish speakers. We'll be conversing in Spanish half of the time, and English for the other half. All levels welcome! We will meet on the second floor of the Farmers Market. After you park in the open parking lot, look for the OLD GAS STATION STAND (yellow and red). It's not too far from the big clock. Go INTO the market area - behind the gas stand, and immediately turn left. There will be stairs to the second floor on your left. If you get lost, ask someone how you can get to the second floor near the Brazilian food stand. PARKING: The outside parking lot is free for ninety minutes if you get your ticket validated by purchasing anything at the Farmer's Market, including The Coffee Bean and World Market. \*If you park in the building near the market, you can NOT get your ticket validated. And don't park in the Whole Foods' lot because you could get towed. \*Parking is free for 90 minutes. It's $3.00 for the first fifteen minutes after that, plus another $1.00 for every 15 minutes afterwards.
Great Scott! A chronicle of the dangers of time traveling in R
Great Scott! A chronicle of the dangers of time traveling in R
**About this talk and from our presenter, Malcolm Barrett:** R has a distinct quality: someone who sits down to their computer, downloads the latest version of R, and installs some packages from CRAN will largely have no issues. This is one of R’s greatest strengths, particularly for newcomers: you can get right to work. This is by design: CRAN provides packages in such a way that we receive certain guarantees that everything is going to (mostly) work together on a given day. Revisiting a project in R later, however, is often painful: all those things that worked beautifully together suddenly fail. Either you have to update all your code to match the changes that have been made in the packages you use, or you have to find a way to restore your R session to the state that it was in when you were working last. R has a long history of community tools for managing package environments, such as packrat and renv. Yet, it’s still rarely an easy process. Exposure to the uv framework for managing Python environments—itself a harrowing history—showed me that there could be a better way. I set out to revisit R package environments and came out the other side with a new point of view. In this talk, I’ll discuss why we face issues restoring R package environments, improving renv workflows, thinking through system dependencies, and exploring other tools like Posit Package manager, Docker, and rv. **For ONLINE attendees**: We will be broadcasting this presentation via Zoom. We will begin promptly at 7:00 pm PT. **Please RSVP for online attendance to get the Zoom link under the Hybrid location info.** **For IN-PERSON attendees, meeting location info:** We'll be meeting at the Keck Center @ Chapman University room N107/N109. The space has a 40-person limit - If you RSVP but are unable to attend, please update your RSVP promptly to accommodate others interested in attending. **Food and beverages will be catered by SoCal RUG for this event and served at 6:30 pm PT. The main presentation will begin at 7:00 pm PT.** **Parking:** The best parking option will be the Anderson Parking Structure conveniently next to the Chapman's Keck Center. From the entrance of the Anderson Parking Structure, navigate to the elevator on the far side of the parking structure. Take the elevator to the 1st floor, and you'll find yourself in an outdoor atrium. As you’re exiting the elevator, turn left through the glass doors into Swenson Hall. Continue down the hallway past the MakerSpace and the Ideation Zone (rooms N107/109) will be on your left. While street parking is an option, it may require a valid Chapman parking pass depending on the street you're on - Please pay attention to street signage and see everyone tonight! ***Legal Disclaimer:*** *The advice and/or information provided at this event is not endorsed by nor should it be construed as educational/legal advice from Chapman University.*
