AI, Art and Media - StrangeNew.World @ 310 Coffee
We are a community of **artists, thinkers, technicians, and curious minds** from all walks of life exploring how technology can serve human flourishing in 2026!
Whether if you're an AI enthusiast or skeptic, a creative professional or someone just beginning to navigate our rapidly changing world, this group is for you! The conversations we have at our **“support group for the technological singularity”** are designed to meet everyone at their level of understanding - no technical background required, just an open mind and genuine curiosity about our collective future.
How do we preserve community, creativity, connection, and purpose in this new age? Our focus for 2026 is to build out our community into somewhere between a participatory lab, an art salon and a social group. So we will be talking about and experimenting with LLMs, vibe coding and AI generated imagery and sound. We discuss the ethical and cultural implications of this new powerful set of tools as well as trade tips, discuss use cases and share workflows for getting the most out of this new era. We are also open to discussing anything relating to technology, culture, and the arts. Our meetings have a super casual and open atmosphere where all are welcome to contribute. Feel free to come late or leave early.
And I will (as always) be encouraging people to create art and will be translating for non-geeks. So, no matter if you love technology, or if you think it is destroying the very fabric of our society, or if you are just starting to experiment with AI to help better market yourself or your business, we would love to help get you started and/or learn more about your experiences.
**Here is a list of the typical topics…**
**AI in Media**
* Deepfakes, propaganda and the future of media
* AI ethics and copyright law
* Will AI destroy Hollywood or save it?
* Accessibility and story telling
**For the Creators (new media and old)**
* Discuss releases of AI tools and services
* Tips and techniques for prompting
* Voicing and animating your characters
* Editing and the AI visual effects revolution
* Combining traditional filmmaking with AI
* How to go viral, fund raising, and SMM
**For the Haters (who are welcome)**
* Is using AI cheating, where is the line?
* Is AI art soulless? What gives art a soul?
* How will younger people learn w/o “putting in the work”
* How to us AI ethically
**AI for Social Change**
* The changing job market. What skills will matter in 10 years?
* Demonization of knowledge and resources
* The 2nd Cognitive Revolution, emergent intelligence
* A new age of inhuman efficiency
* Unemployment, UBI and the future of “work”
Atheists Volunteer FOOD DISTRIBUTION! Come help and give out food!
[Atheists United](http://www.atheistsunited.org/), California's largest grassroots atheist nonprofit, hosts a food distribution in Los Angeles every month at our office building. We've partnered with the LA Food Bank and Sunday Assembly Los Angeles to give out over 4,000lbs of food each event.
**We need volunteers to help us unload, sort, assemble, and give away grocery kits from 12pm - 5pm.**
From 12pm - 3:30 we unload the truck, sort the food, and build the grocery kits. From 3:30pm - 5pm volunteers will help hand food out directly to those in need in the neighborhood. From 5pm - 6pm we'll clean up and celebrate everything we accomplished together at a local restaurant.
Free snacks and drinks provided for all volunteers.
If you'd like to be a super volunteer, contact us about showing up at 10am to help with early setup!
**Food:** Snacks will be provided free for volunteers. We also usually buy lunch for everyone. After the event volunteers usually gather at a local restaurant to debrief.
**Safety:** Safety vests, gloves, and masks are available for all volunteers. Volunteers are expected to be fully vaccinated.
**Parking:** Free parking available for volunteers in our parking lot off Rampart Blvd.
**Dress Code:** Safety requirements include: no open-toe/open-heel shoes or high heels. We recommend casual attire (jeans, t-shirt, light sweater, & tennis shoes). Please dress for the weather and wear sunscreen as needed.
Any questions, please contact Evan at [evan@atheistsunited.org](http://evan@atheistsunited.org/)
We know we have only one life to live and few things bring more joy than helping others. Join us!
**If you can't attend but would like to help support the program financially please consider a donation to Atheists United so we can organize more projects like this in the future:** [https://www.atheistsunited.org/donate-now](https://www.atheistsunited.org/donate-now)

Intermission is Over - Time for More Jazz
Let's hang out again for another night of jazz in the Grand Lobby of the historic Culver Hotel in Culver City. (And don't forget to check out the swanky upstairs bar, the Velvet Lounge.)
The hotel is located in a plaza where you can take a small stroll to Culver Studios for a picture in front of the mansion featured in *Gone With the Wind*, or traverse the Culver Steps directly across from the studio, or get an ice cream around the corner at Salt & Straw. There's also a parking structure under the plaza with an entrance right next tot he hotel.
The band starts playing at 8:00, so we'll congregate by the couches next to the piano at 7:30 and mingle and get to know each other. When you get here, just look for a a group of guests standing near the musicians who keep asking "Is this the Meetup?" That's us.
So come on by for another evening of great music, making new acquaintances, or seeing old ones (if you were here for the first event). Hopefully we'll have another swinging turnout like we did back in March. Hope to see you there.
{USC} Square Dance with a LIVE BAND!
Let's go square dancing Downtown near USC! ($20)
The 16th ever Los Angeles Old Time Social is happening on May 16th.
There are beginner-friendly workshops throughout the day and musicians and folk enthusiasts from up and down the west coast come into town that weekend.
Some of them will be putting on a square dance from 7:30-10pm, which is what we'll be attending.
Different musicians and callers will be rotating in throughout the night, and we'll keep dancing.
Never square danced? Don't worry... all dances are taught. Fun guaranteed!
No partner necessary, this is social dancing :) Everyone willing to participate is welcome!
Bring your friends -- the more the square-ier!
Straight and LGBTQIA+ friendly.
We'll meet up there at 7:30pm to watch (and eat) musical cakes before the dancing gets underway.
SCHEDULE:
6-7ish - doors
7:00pm - flatfooting workshop (included with evening program admission, if you're interested)
7:30pm - musical cakes + group meet + socializing + beginner-friendly dancing out back (outside)
DIRECTIONS:
Punch "Velaslavasay Panorama" into maps and it should get there easy.
1122 W 24th St, Los Angeles, CA 90007
PARKING:
Street parking. Double-check posted signs.
MEETING UP:
We'll meet up by the cakes around 7:30pm. (Once you go in, just keep heading back, go out into the back garden, back through the ornate gate, into the courtyard+kitchen. If you get lost, just ask anyone to point you toward the cakes.) If you're late and miss the group meet, once you get to the cakes area, ask anyone to point you to Lindsay, and we'll introduce you to the rest of the group.
DRINKS/FOOD INFO:
You may bring your own food and water bottle. In years past, they have had donation-based canned/bottled drinks on site. I'm unsure what they will have this year.
COST:
$20 for the evening program (see ticket link in comments).
There is also a limited number of discounted all-day passes still available for $45 (at the time of posting this) if you plan to attend more than the evening program.
WHAT TO BRING:
• Comfortable shoes for pavement
• Layers (the dance will be outside)
• Water bottle
• Pre-purchased ticket receipt on your phone
• Cash for drink donations
Tips for the LADIES:
* Dresses are fun for twirling, but pants are cool too :)
* It's best to wear shoes that won't easily slip off
* It's ok (even encouraged) to ask guys to dance :)
* Ladies are always right, so ladies are always on the right when dancing (though you are no way limited to dancing the "lady" role--anyone can dance any role)
Hope you'll join us!

Hi neighbors—I'm hosting an **8-week Italian Film Salon** at Electric Lodge (free parking) starting in May and wanted to share it with the community.
Each Sunday we’ll screen a great Italian film (with English subtitles), enjoy a glass of Italian wine, and have a relaxed, informal discussion afterward. It’s designed to be welcoming and low-key—no film background or Italian required.
If you enjoy film, culture, or just a thoughtful way to spend a Sunday afternoon, (12:00-3:00pm, not 7:PM) you’re very welcome to join us.
