May We Play Board Games With Ya?
May We Play Board Games With Ya?
Hey party people! Come hit up Paper Hero's for a chill afternoon of board games with East Valley Board Games. Also, BUNDLE UP, as it can get quite chilly in our corner of the store. Layers are good. The gaming details: Attendance: This is a drop-in event, so you don’t have to stay the whole time. Come for an hour, come for two hours, show up late, leave early. As long as you clean up any mess that you leave, you're good with us and the wonderful store runners, Andrew and Zoey. NOTE: It is advisable that the best way to get in on a game without waiting is to come at the beginning of the event at 2pm. Otherwise you might have to wait for a game to end and another to begin. Parking: Paper Heroes is located in a strip mall on the northwest corner of Burbank Blvd. and Hazeltine Ave. in Sherman Oaks. No, we don't know why Meetup lists the city as Los Angeles and not Sherman Oaks. There are a few parking spaces in the small shopping center, and we would suggest looking for street parking as well. Since it's Sunday, meters will be free. **Important note: It's been brought to our attention that there are a few 1 hour parking signs around the venue, so as always, check parking signs carefully so you don't get a visit from a parking fairy.** We have had good luck parking on the east side of Hazeltine, just south of Burbank. Food: Outside food and drink is allowed in. We just ask as always that you are careful so as not to spill. There's a coffee shop next door, Nat's Early Bite, which is open until 3pm. Just please be careful and don’t spill food or drink on games, or you’ll be expected to replace them, which we think is a fair policy. Also, there are some game mats placed on some tables around the stores with signs asking patrons to not place food or drink on top of them. PLEASE RESPECT THIS RULE. Don't be a jerk. Guests: Guests are great! Just be sure to note it in your RSVP, and if your guests' plans change, please update your RSVP. Please understand that you are responsible for making sure that your guests spend at least $5 at Paper Heroes to support the business. More info on that in a second. Store policy: PH is asking that every person who attends our events makes at least 1 purchase or purchases $5 store credit to use in the future (the store keeps an account for you). Snacks and drinks can be part of this, but they're not ideal. It's a gaming store (also comic books!) after all (and was affected by the pandemic). What we like to do is put aside a list of games we want and buy or order them from PH, rather than get them from Amazon (doesn't Jeff Bozo have enough of our money?) The store runners and East Valley Board Games organizers (Felicity, Joe, and Mike) will remind you at the event. Games: Feel free to bring your own games, or just play the ones that others bring. There's always a healthy selection of strategy games, word games, party games, and so on.
CBS Film Series presents "Sheitel"
CBS Film Series presents "Sheitel"
In Europe during the Middle Ages Christian women covered their hair. During the 16th and 17th centuries wigs were worn by royalty, and associated with high status and high fashion. In the 60s and 70s the wig enjoyed a revival thanks in part to a large fashionista market. Filmed in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Canada and Jerusalem, Sheitel traces the historical and spiritual roots of hair covering for married women in Judaism, its evolving interpretations, and its misconceptions. Scenes from Jerusalem reveal how head coverings act as markers of faith and empowerment not only for Jewish, but Christian and Muslim women as well. Additionally, the film offers a rare look into the global wig industry. Sunday, May 17 @ 2:00 p.m. $5 per person Includes Popcorn & Concessions *** \*\*Spring Sale\*\* CBS Film Series T-Shirts For Sale $12 Each - 2 for $20 *** $1 raffle tickets will be on sale for a chance to win a $25 gift card RSVP to cbsfilmseries@gmail.com or (661) 254-2411 21430 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita, CA 91350
Saturday Game Night
Saturday Game Night
I'm at Grismer Coves, apartment A11 - buzz 11 at the gate. First building, upstairs. There will be drinks in the fridge and a candy bowl on the table. If you'd like to bring something, great, but don't feel obligated. Vaccinated only. No mask required. FYI - I have a cat. The first 9 spots are open to anyone. After that, I will move some people from the waitlist to 'Going', but I give priority to folks who are regulars. BTW - I know parking can be a pain. Please follow these suggestions: 1. Look on Grismer. You might get lucky. 2. Drive down to the corner of Grismer and San Fernando. Turn right. 3. Park. There are always about 10 spaces there and it's only a block away. People don't look there because it feels like you're getting on the freeway.

May 17, 2026 - Mission Point Granada Hills Hike (Advanced Hikers Only)
May 17, 2026 - Mission Point Granada Hills Hike (Advanced Hikers Only)
My organizers and I will be leading a hike to Mission Point, via the Dr. Mario De Campos trail (Neon way)in the Granada Hills area (*San Fernando Valley*.) This out and back hike is approximately 4.5 miles long. It is a challenging route and is intended for advanced hikers due to the 1,227 foot elevation gain. We do not recommend beginning or unexperienced hikers attending this hike. The first two miles are quite steep. We will be limiting the amount of attendees so my team and I can safely keep track of the hikers and not overcrowd the trail. We will hike as a group and leave no one behind. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message. When parking, do not leave any valuables or anything in plain site in your vehicle. Unfortunately, there has been car burglaries in the area. If you want more information on this hike please visit https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/mission-point-via-de-campos-trail HIKE RATING SCALE - (This hike is challenging ) Rating a hike is subjective, meaning the difficulty of a hike will be in direct relation to how often you hike and the type of hike you prefer. Keep in mind that any hike can have the following: un-even hiking surfaces, various obstructions, water crossings or rock hopping. Easy: 1-2 miles with easy terrain (flat road) and little elevation gain. Moderate: 2-4 miles with moderate terrain and some elevation change. Challenging: 4 or more miles or varying terrain. All ages are welcome, but anyone under 18 must come with a legal guardian. Make sure to bring plenty of fluids, and good hiking shoes. Hiking poles can also be useful. The day of the hike my organizers and I will be wearing red shirts, we will on Sesnon blvd. This hike will be cancelled if it rains, high winds or extreme cold. **ADDRESS**: 12987 Neon Way, Granada Hills, CA 91344 .**\*PLEASE NOTE\*** Do not park on Neon Way. It is a residential street and we do not want to overcrowd the neighborhood. We will be parking on Sesnon Blvd before Neon Way and have a flag that you can't miss. **DATE**: Sunday, May 17, 2026 **TIME**: Our leave time is 8:00 AM. Please try to get there a few minutes early to park and do a quick safety briefing. **WHERE TO MEET**: 12987 Neon Way, Granada Hills, CA 91344. My suggestion is taking Balboa to Sesnon Blvd, past O'Melveny Park to Neon Way. I will be parked on Sesnon Blvd with a flag that says ***Granada Hills Hiking Group*** and will direct you on where to park. Please try to come a little earlier so you will not have trouble finding our location. **DISTANCE**: About 4.5 miles out and back on a steep incline hill. **DIFFICULTY:** Advanced hikers only. We anticipate this hike lasting three hours. **DOGS**: Must be well behaved on a leash per state law, but please be aware that rattlesnakes and coyotes have been known to be on the trail. **RESTROOMS AND WATER FOUNTAINS:** No restrooms. No water fountains. Water will be provided before and after the hike. **PARKING**: Along Sesnon Blvd before Neon Way - There is no lot available to park in so you must find parking on Sesnon blvd Please obey all parking signs in the vicinity. Please do not leave any valuables in your vehicle. Unfortunately, there has been a string of car burglaries in the area lately. **CLOTHES:** Please dress according to the forecasted weather. This event will be cancelled in case of extreme weather. Dangers to watch out for: Rattlesnakes, coyotes, tarantulas, heat exhaustion, burglars and uneven ground that can cause falls. Bee stings are also a possibility. If you are allergic, please bring an EpiPen with you and let me know before the hike. **DISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY:** • You must RSVP to attend this event, no exceptions. • The Granada Hills Hiking Group organizers are not trained leaders and do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. • If you sign up for any event, you are releasing the Granada Hills Hiking Group organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries. • Hiking and other outdoor events can be dangerous and accidents can happen. • By participating in this event, you are responsible for your own safety and well-being.
