Board gaming on Friday nights in Sherman Oaks
Friday Night Board Gaming (formerly Friday Night Dice) is a meetup for everyone who likes board games. And if you’re new to board games, our friendly gamers are happy to teach you how to play. We play basic European board games like Settlers of Catan, Ticket To Ride, etc., and more advanced games like Suburbia, Power Grid, Terraforming Mars, and Railways of the World. Also war games & card games. We bring lots of games, but you’re free to bring your own!
We used to game at LASFS (Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society) in Van Nuys. However, as that organization sold its building we have moved to Paper Hero's and Games, a game store in Sherman Oaks, and we continue to meet every Friday late afternoon and evening.
We share the gaming space with a large group of Magic the Gathering players but we easily have room for between 10 to 20 board gamers who usually show up for board games. Most of these gamers are regulars who just don't bother to RSVP as this is a store open to all comers and requiring a Yes RSVP is not feasible as we are often joined by store customers who see what we are doing and ask to join in - and we always say YES! (As most gamers do not bother to RSVP, quite often our home page will just show me as the only attendee even though we may have almost 2 dozen gamers at our tables. So, if the home page shows just 1 person attending, pay no attention to that as we may very well have full house of gamers.)
So come on down and get your gaming fix this Friday at the friendly and comfortable game store. We have beginners and advanced gamers, so everyone is welcome.

Ladies Lunch and Guided Discussion
Left leaning politics are a focus.
I know that having Chinese food every week may be boring to some people, but here are the reasons why I'm keeping this location:
* Free parking
* Reasonably priced
* Separate checks
* A really nice conference room
* Great location
* More new people from other parts of the city
* 10 minutes from Brentwood in the middle of the day.
The salads are good, or come and just have tea if you don't want Chinese food.

CBS Film Series presents "Sheitel"
In Europe during the Middle Ages Christian women covered their hair. During the 16th and 17th centuries wigs were worn by royalty, and associated with high status and high fashion. In the 60s and 70s the wig enjoyed a revival thanks in part to a large fashionista market.
Filmed in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Canada and Jerusalem, Sheitel traces the historical and spiritual roots of hair covering for married women in Judaism, its evolving interpretations, and its misconceptions. Scenes from Jerusalem reveal how head coverings act as markers of faith and empowerment not only for Jewish, but Christian and Muslim women as well. Additionally, the film offers a rare look into the global wig industry.

Saturday Game Night
I'm at Grismer Coves, apartment A11 - buzz 11 at the gate. First building, upstairs.
There will be drinks in the fridge and a candy bowl on the table. If you'd like to bring something, great, but don't feel obligated.
Vaccinated only. No mask required.
FYI - I have a cat.
The first 9 spots are open to anyone. After that, I will move some people from the waitlist to 'Going', but I give priority to folks who are regulars.
BTW - I know parking can be a pain. Please follow these suggestions:
1. Look on Grismer. You might get lucky.
2. Drive down to the corner of Grismer and San Fernando. Turn right.
3. Park. There are always about 10 spaces there and it's only a block away. People don't look there because it feels like you're getting on the freeway.

Seniors - Interactive & Therapeutic Music Session - Playing, Jamming, Dancing!
This meetup group is all about appreciating the wonderful music (pop, soul, rock, jazz) of decades past, roughly encompassing the 50's to the 80's. We use music to facilitate interaction and for the therapeutic benefits, especially for seniors, of rhythm-based music therapy. As a professional drummer and songwriter, I have found that listening to and enjoying music from a rhythmic standpoint has great benefits for people of any musical background. The only requirement is that you enjoy music too!
This particular group is open to all individuals in the area who are at least 55 years in age. I have carried out many sessions like this with great results, as I especially love bringing joy to seniors, who too often don't have viable social opportunities and don't have any way of revisiting good memories from their youth via music.
The primary reason to join this group is to HAVE FUN! To expand on that, the fun you have during these sessions is based on simultaneous appreciation of music and positive social interaction with an individual who is not necessarily in your age group (ME!). If you would like to enjoy not just listening to music, but interactively getting INSIDE the music by rhythmically playing along or clapping, then join! If you are looking to meet other like-minded, music-loving seniors, then join! If you want to have a unique experience enjoying music you love while creating lasting friendship, then join! While I certainly offer musical knowledge with each session and information regarding the instruments and the music that I bring, my priority is for you to have a great time while also possibly learning something about music!
In a typical session, we begin by chatting for a few minutes about music (or any other topic!). Oftentimes, I will then do a quick performance to demonstrate the rhythmic approach to listening to music. Then, I pass out small instruments to whoever may be interested while we play, sing, clap, and dance! If you have limited mobility, you can still join in with small percussion instruments that I bring, or you can simply watch and listen. You will forget your aches and pains for an hour as we jam together within the context of music you love, like Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, Benny Goodman, the Grateful Dead, Michael Jackson, and a whole lot more. I often dance with and interact with everyone in the room while we play our instruments and forget our worries inside the music.
If you're a senior who loves music, join our group today! I'm very much looking forward to meeting you! No musical experience necessary.

**VHC INFO. AND DISCLAIMERS**
Farzan Rule: We start the hike at the Posted hike time-SHARP!
**PLEASE - Know your limits & abilities.** Check weather conditions, dress accordingly & be aware of your surroundings at all times. Watching out for poison oak, snakes, ticks, uneven footing, spectacular views, beautiful fauna all while interacting with awesome (usually) fellow hikers can be extremely hazardous, rewarding & fun.
**VHC HIKE RATING SCALE**
Rating a hike is subjective, meaning the difficulty of a hike will be in direct relation to how often you hike & the type of hike you prefer. Keep in mind that any hike can have the following: un-even hiking surfaces, various obstructions, water/water crossings or bouldering/rock hopping. A great hike will have all of these!
1 – A long walk
2 – 4 mile hike w/little elevation gain (E.G.)
3 – 5 mile hike w/up to 1000 ft. E.G.
4 – 5+ mile hike w/up to 1500 ft. E.G. (heart rate increases at times)
5 – 7+ mile hike w/over 1500 ft. E.G. (heart rate increasing even more at times)
6 – 7+ mile hike w/over 2000 ft. E.G. (at times you might be trying to remember how to perform CPR)
7 – 5+ mile hike w/over 2000 ft. E.G. (at times you might be muttering expletives to yourself)
8 – 10+ mile hike w/over 3500 ft. E.G. (at times you might be angry with the hike leader)
9 – 10+ mile hike w/over 5000 ft. E.G. (at times you might be thinking of reporting the hike leader to the authorities)
10 – Use your imagination
