Board gaming on Friday nights in Sherman Oaks
Board gaming on Friday nights in Sherman Oaks
Friday Night Board Gaming (formerly Friday Night Dice) is a meetup for everyone who likes board games. And if you’re new to board games, our friendly gamers are happy to teach you how to play. We play basic European board games like Settlers of Catan, Ticket To Ride, etc., and more advanced games like Suburbia, Power Grid, Terraforming Mars, and Railways of the World. Also war games & card games. We bring lots of games, but you’re free to bring your own! We used to game at LASFS (Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society) in Van Nuys. However, as that organization sold its building we have moved to Paper Hero's and Games, a game store in Sherman Oaks, and we continue to meet every Friday late afternoon and evening. We share the gaming space with a large group of Magic the Gathering players but we easily have room for between 10 to 20 board gamers who usually show up for board games. Most of these gamers are regulars who just don't bother to RSVP as this is a store open to all comers and requiring a Yes RSVP is not feasible as we are often joined by store customers who see what we are doing and ask to join in - and we always say YES! (As most gamers do not bother to RSVP, quite often our home page will just show me as the only attendee even though we may have almost 2 dozen gamers at our tables. So, if the home page shows just 1 person attending, pay no attention to that as we may very well have full house of gamers.) So come on down and get your gaming fix this Friday at the friendly and comfortable game store. We have beginners and advanced gamers, so everyone is welcome.

Left leaning politics are a focus. I know that having Chinese food every week may be boring to some people, but here are the reasons why I'm keeping this location: * Free parking * Reasonably priced * Separate checks * A really nice conference room * Great location * More new people from other parts of the city * 10 minutes from Brentwood in the middle of the day. The salads are good, or come and just have tea if you don't want Chinese food. Check out menu at [https://order.pfchangs.com](https://order.pfchangs.com/)\|
Ten+ Tennis Tune-Up 3.5* NTRP
Ten+ Tennis Tune-Up 3.5* NTRP
During During spring and milder weather this hour is reserved for private party . Feel free to check with me offseason if you don't mind the Heat. Also if there is no group the fee for a private hour is $40. Thanks for your understanding. What makes this workout different? For most players, it is the ability to master net play as well as enhancin g the ground-strokes to create 'all-court' game, coverage, control, balance, finesse, flexibility, ... altogether low-impact (on the joints) effective play. Here is a little information on my background. I have been coaching tennis for well over two decades. When the 'tennis powers that be' decided to turn our graceful, exciting sport into a boring baseline slug fest, tossing out the classic backhand with the bathwater, I resisted and have trained countless players in the traditional fundamentals of tennis which lead to effortless all-court coverage, accuracy, variety, finesse and power... About 50% of our focus over the decades has been on the 'Inner Game' which creates the perfect balance to our workouts. Side benefits for those who follow my guidance are greatly decreased incidence of tennis related injuries. I am a 'player-coach', and have never experienced more than an occasional minor strain that clears up within minutes to hours usually, but always fewer than 48 hours. You can check the >More >Discussions >Message Board for a couple of threads on things like tendonitis plus an excellent find on the importance of good body chemistry called 'Be Healthy Now'. Check this out! Table of contents for the "Who was teaching what where when" upcoming tennis history, in which I am said to be featured in chapter 1 and chapter 4. https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/8665ae_77f1c103ab7a40e2a5c0c43dd44198cc.pdf Final draft copies were distributed to tennis officials of the USTA and other tennis governing bodies at the recent US Open by its historian author. New publication date for all to see is April 2020. Anyone that attends my workouts with an open mind, ready to possibly look at their game from a slightly different perspective is usually pleasantly surprised. I think you will be as well! For future reference please contact me directly and early if you are interested in this event. This Meetup has contingencies, for instance it may not happen if the workout that precedes it isn't happening, and it probably will not happen if there is only one confirmation unless we convert it to 'Your private hour. (40$/hour, however, there is a non-meetup member and friend who attends most weeks and this hour is listed on our sister Meetup, thus a very good chance that this will be a group as the maximum is just four, really three because MU includes me in the count.) If you don't have my phone number, you may be in touch with me through Meetup message or email. I only exchange phone numbers via email. Please give me minimum 24 hour notice if you are interested. Skill level is usually 3.5 plus or minus... Thanks for checking!'

CBS Film Series presents "Sheitel"
CBS Film Series presents "Sheitel"
In Europe during the Middle Ages Christian women covered their hair. During the 16th and 17th centuries wigs were worn by royalty, and associated with high status and high fashion. In the 60s and 70s the wig enjoyed a revival thanks in part to a large fashionista market. Filmed in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Canada and Jerusalem, Sheitel traces the historical and spiritual roots of hair covering for married women in Judaism, its evolving interpretations, and its misconceptions. Scenes from Jerusalem reveal how head coverings act as markers of faith and empowerment not only for Jewish, but Christian and Muslim women as well. Additionally, the film offers a rare look into the global wig industry. A great hike will have all of these! 1 – A long walk 2 – 4 mile hike w/little elevation gain (E.G.) 3 – 5 mile hike w/up to 1000 ft. E.G. 4 – 5+ mile hike w/up to 1500 ft. E.G. Intro to Latin Rumba- A magical experience taught only once or twice a year.
Intro to Latin Rumba- A magical experience taught only once or twice a year.
Latin Rumba is possibly the most romantic and delicate of all Latin dances. Although Rumba originated in West Africa, ballroom-style dancers transformed Rumba into a movement form that features partner connection, intimate positioning, and partner synergy in the early 1900s. Starting around 1940, Latin dancers formed a hybrid technique, blending Cuban Son, Ballroom Rumba, and the Waltz into this smooth and gliding form of partner expression. Ladies often dance the Rumba with **eyes closed** as leads move their partners with ease and trust throughout the dance floor. We teach this safely. This style is almost entirely experienced in an intimate closed position, where the connection between partners is emphasized. It has been said that once you dance Latin Rumba you will never feel the same. 2 weeks is all you need to learn the basics and impress others with your grace and light elegance. A very versatile style, Latin Rumba can be applied to numerous forms of Latin and Top 40 sounds with ease. Perfect for weddings, social dancing, and house parties. **Co-hosted by the /City of Santa Clarita- you must sign up online through the "Santa Clarita Seasons" website.** Class size will be kept small to allow for accelerated student development. This dance course develops steps, simple patterns for partner dancing, and leads directly into intermediate techniques that may need only practice instead of classes. This is purely a partner dance, but for class, **no partner is required**. We use partner rotation to expand experience and skill techniques, but couples who do not wish to rotate may stay together. Flat-soled, non-textured bottom shoes are helpful, but don't go buy dance shoes for this casual and slow-paced style. Most dancers master the basic steps and learn quickly. By the 3rd week, we generally move into more intermediate skills. Newcomers can audit the first class for free. Those ready to go and committed should Sign up online through the **City of Santa Clarita Seasons website**. The City will charge $25 for the 2-week course of instruction.
