Board gaming on Friday nights in Sherman Oaks
Friday Night Board Gaming (formerly Friday Night Dice) is a meetup for everyone who likes board games. And if you’re new to board games, our friendly gamers are happy to teach you how to play. We play basic European board games like Settlers of Catan, Ticket To Ride, etc., and more advanced games like Suburbia, Power Grid, Terraforming Mars, and Railways of the World. Also war games & card games. We bring lots of games, but you’re free to bring your own!
We used to game at LASFS (Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society) in Van Nuys. However, as that organization sold its building we have moved to Paper Hero's and Games, a game store in Sherman Oaks, and we continue to meet every Friday late afternoon and evening.
We share the gaming space with a large group of Magic the Gathering players but we easily have room for between 10 to 20 board gamers who usually show up for board games. Most of these gamers are regulars who just don't bother to RSVP as this is a store open to all comers and requiring a Yes RSVP is not feasible as we are often joined by store customers who see what we are doing and ask to join in - and we always say YES! (As most gamers do not bother to RSVP, quite often our home page will just show me as the only attendee even though we may have almost 2 dozen gamers at our tables. So, if the home page shows just 1 person attending, pay no attention to that as we may very well have full house of gamers.)
So come on down and get your gaming fix this Friday at the friendly and comfortable game store. We have beginners and advanced gamers, so everyone is welcome.
Ten+ Tennis Tune-Up 3.5* NTRP
During During spring and milder weather this hour is reserved for private party . Feel free to check with me offseason if you don't mind the Heat. Also if there is no group the fee for a private hour is $40. Thanks for your understanding.
What makes this workout different? For most players, it is the ability to master net play as well as enhancin g the ground-strokes to create 'all-court' game, coverage, control, balance, finesse, flexibility, ... altogether low-impact (on the joints) effective play.
Here is a little information on my background. I have been coaching tennis for well over two decades. When the 'tennis powers that be' decided to turn our graceful, exciting sport into a boring baseline slug fest, tossing out the classic backhand with the bathwater, I resisted and have trained countless players in the traditional fundamentals of tennis which lead to effortless all-court coverage, accuracy, variety, finesse and power... About 50% of our focus over the decades has been on the 'Inner Game' which creates the perfect balance to our workouts.
Side benefits for those who follow my guidance are greatly decreased incidence of tennis related injuries. I am a 'player-coach', and have never experienced more than an occasional minor strain that clears up within minutes to hours usually, but always fewer than 48 hours. You can check the >More >Discussions >Message Board for a couple of threads on things like tendonitis plus an excellent find on the importance of good body chemistry called 'Be Healthy Now'.
Check this out! Table of contents for the "Who was teaching what where when" upcoming tennis history, in which I am said to be featured in chapter 1 and chapter 4.

Final draft copies were distributed to tennis officials of the USTA and other tennis governing bodies at the recent US Open by its historian
author. New publication date for all to see is April 2020.
Anyone that attends my workouts with an open mind, ready to possibly look at their game from a slightly different perspective is usually pleasantly surprised. I think you will be as well!
For future reference please contact me directly and early if you are interested in this event. This Meetup has contingencies, for instance it may not happen if the workout that precedes it isn't happening, and it probably will not happen if there is only one confirmation unless we convert it to 'Your private hour. (40$/hour, however, there is a non-meetup member and friend who attends most weeks and this hour is listed on our sister Meetup, thus a very good chance that this will be a group as the maximum is just four, really three because MU includes me in the count.)
If you don't have my phone number, you may be in touch with me through Meetup message or email. I only exchange phone numbers via email.
Please give me minimum 24 hour notice if you are interested.
Skill level is usually 3.5 plus or minus...
Thanks for checking!'
Atheists Volunteer FOOD DISTRIBUTION! Come help and give out food!
[Atheists United](www.atheistsunited.org), California's largest grassroots atheist nonprofit, is fighting the emergency food crisis with our partners [Sunday Assembly Los Angeles](www.sundayassemblyla.com) by hosting a food distribution in Los Angeles outside our offices. We've partnered with the LA Food Bank and give out over 3,000lbs of food each event.
**We need volunteers to help us assemble and organize food packages from 12pm - 5pm every third Friday.**
From 3:30pm - 5pm volunteers will help hand food out directly to those in need in the neighborhood. From 5pm - 6pm we'll clean up and celebrate everything we accomplished together. Music and snacks will make it well worth your time.
If you'd like to be a super volunteer, contact us about showing up at 10am to help with setup!
**[If you're able to make a donation to our Food Distribution program please text the code "AUFOOD" to 44-321, or click here](https://secure.givelively.org/donate/atheists-united/support-atheists-united-s-food-distributions). All donations go to helping us feed our community or expand our impact.**
**\*\*Food:** Snacks will be provided free for volunteers. We also hope you join us for dinner at a local restaurant after the event.
**\*\*Safety:** COVID-19 is extremely dangerous and we prioritize the safety of our volunteers and food recipients. You must be vaccinated to volunteer. If you are not vaccinated you will be asked to leave immediately.
**\*\*Parking:** Free parking for volunteers in our parking lot off Rampart Blvd behind the building.
**\*\*Dress Code:** Safety requirements include: no open-toe/open-heel shoes or high heels. We recommend casual attire (jeans, t-shirt, light sweater, & tennis shoes). Please dress for the weather and wear sunscreen as needed.

Ladies Lunch and Guided Discussion
Left leaning politics are a focus.
I know that having Chinese food every week may be boring to some people, but here are the reasons why I'm keeping this location:
* Free parking
* Reasonably priced
* Separate checks
* A really nice conference room
* Great location
* More new people from other parts of the city
* 10 minutes from Brentwood in the middle of the day.
The salads are good, or come and just have tea if you don't want Chinese food.

CBS Film Series presents "Sheitel"
In Europe during the Middle Ages Christian women covered their hair. During the 16th and 17th centuries wigs were worn by royalty, and associated with high status and high fashion. In the 60s and 70s the wig enjoyed a revival thanks in part to a large fashionista market.
Filmed in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Canada and Jerusalem, Sheitel traces the historical and spiritual roots of hair covering for married women in Judaism, its evolving interpretations, and its misconceptions. Scenes from Jerusalem reveal how head coverings act as markers of faith and empowerment not only for Jewish, but Christian and Muslim women as well. Additionally, the film offers a rare look into the global wig industry.

If God made the Universe, who made God?
A few weeks ago, we looked at how Big Bang cosmology shows our universe had a beginning caused by something that lies beyond our universe. If that was a God, it begs the question: “If God made the universe, who made God”. Be ready to take a deep dive into this and address it from a couple different angles. I will also touch on “what is heaven like”, as the material presented offers insight into that as well.
This will be our last meeting before going on summer break.
**Where:** Bel Air Church, 16221 Mulholland Dr., L.A.
Room DC101, the corner classroom off the main patio.
When you enter the main patio level, one level up from the parking lots, the church entrance will be on your right and the classroom building on the left. We will meet in first classroom.
**Parking**: Park in one of the lower lots on either side of Mulholland just before the church. Walk or take a shuttle bus up the driveway to the main patio level. For handicapped parking, take the church driveway just after the lower parking lot and go up the hill to the top parking lot.

Atheists United Meetup SFV, Location West Hills Pizza Company
(This Event is promoted in other groups and platforms and is open to all)
When I arrive, I will try to find some space for us, most likely on the long benches in the room far to the left of the cash registers. If not there then in the main restaurant or outside patio. I will be the person wearing a black tie with the "Atheist A" symbol on it. The tie is necessary because they don't allow groups to display "political signs" in the restaurant. So I am leaving the Atheists United sign home. - Mark
🛑**What to expect:**
Discussion about religion/Atheism and much more.
🛑**What we're about:**
WELCOME to the SFV Atheists Meetup - one of many opportunities to engage in mindful discussions, lectures, book clubs, educational forums mostly online, and our in-person volunteer events like the monthly food distributions. We are an ethically-centered community for greater Los Angeles atheists. Our mission is to build thriving atheist communities, empower people to express their secular values, and promote the separation of government and religion.
🛑**Meeting format:**
This is a place for atheists to meet, have dinner with and talk to other atheists, skeptics and humanists. A few agnostics and religious people sometimes show up as well and they are welcome as long as they are not there to proselytize. We mandate courtesy and respect to fellow attendees, and no proselytizing. Foremost, this is a social gathering, and support group for like-minded persons, not a debate club.
If you're coming just to argue on matters of religion or politics, don't bother showing up, you're not going to convert anyone, and you will be asked to leave.
🛑**This is a 2-hour event**, but often we go overtime when the discussion and the great atmosphere it requires; or when we can't get enough of seeing familiar faces and perhaps some new ones.
Feel free to stay as long or as short as you'd like.
🛑Look out for topics posted in the discussion section and please place your own ideas, questions or concerns in the comments and please feel free to private message any of our co-organizers by clicking on their names. Bring your unique point of view and add to the discussion.
