"We Outside!" Culver City Stairs Group Workout
**On Friday's, we take on the iconic Culver City Stairs for an intense, full-body stair-climbing session that pushes every muscle, boosts cardiovascular health, and strengthens our group’s bond through shared grit and determination.**
***
\-\- Incorporating stair climbing into your fitness routine can contribute to improved physical fitness\, strength\, and overall well\-being\. A stairs workout offers several benefits for physical fitness and overall health:
• CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH: Climbing stairs is an excellent aerobic exercise that gets your heart rate up, improving cardiovascular health, increasing stamina, and boosting overall endurance.
• Leg strength: Stair climbing engages various muscle groups in the legs, including the quadriceps, hamstrings, calves, and glutes. Over time, this can lead to improved leg strength, muscle tone, and endurance.
• CALORIE BURNING: Stair climbing is a calorie-intensive exercise that can help with weight management and fat loss. It burns more calories per minute than many other forms of aerobic exercise, making it an efficient way to burn energy.
• LOW IMPACT: Unlike activities like running or jumping, stair climbing is low impact, which means it puts less stress on the joints. This makes it a suitable workout option for individuals with joint pain or those recovering from injuries.
• CONVENIENCE: Stairs are often readily available in various settings, such as homes, office buildings, parks, or public spaces. This makes stair climbing a convenient workout option that can be easily incorporated into daily routines.
• IMPROVED BALANCE AND COORDINATION: Negotiating stairs requires coordination and balance, which can improve with regular stair climbing workouts. This can be particularly beneficial for older adults in reducing the risk of falls and maintaining mobility.
• MENTAL HEALTH BENEFITS: Exercise, including stair climbing, has been shown to release endorphins, which can improve mood and reduce stress and anxiety levels. Additionally, the sense of accomplishment from completing a challenging stair workout can boost self-esteem and confidence.

Zorro! A new opera
This thrilling new work follows the adventures of a Spanish nobleman dons a black mask to become Zorro, the dashing defender of the poor and enslaved of 1800's Los Angeles. Angelino Héctor Armienta's score is influenced by mariachi, flamenco, and corrido music. Zorro leaps into dashing sword fights and passionate romance while battling tyranny and corruption to defend California’s disenfranchised and indigenous peoples. {USC} Square Dance with a LIVE BAND!
Let's go square dancing Downtown near USC! ($20)
The 16th ever Los Angeles Old Time Social is happening on May 16th.
There are beginner-friendly workshops throughout the day and musicians and folk enthusiasts from up and down the west coast come into town that weekend.
Some of them will be putting on a square dance from 7:30-10pm, which is what we'll be attending.
Different musicians and callers will be rotating in throughout the night, and we'll keep dancing.
Never square danced? Don't worry... all dances are taught. Fun guaranteed!
No partner necessary, this is social dancing :) Everyone willing to participate is welcome!
Bring your friends -- the more the square-ier!
Straight and LGBTQIA+ friendly.
We'll meet up there at 7:30pm to watch (and eat) musical cakes before the dancing gets underway.
SCHEDULE:
6-7ish - doors
7:00pm - flatfooting workshop (included with evening program admission, if you're interested)
7:30pm - musical cakes + group meet + socializing + beginner-friendly dancing out back (outside)
DIRECTIONS:
Punch "Velaslavasay Panorama" into maps and it should get there easy.
1122 W 24th St, Los Angeles, CA 90007
PARKING:
Street parking. Double-check posted signs.
MEETING UP:
We'll meet up by the cakes around 7:30pm. (Once you go in, just keep heading back, go out into the back garden, back through the ornate gate, into the courtyard+kitchen. If you get lost, just ask anyone to point you toward the cakes.) If you're late and miss the group meet, once you get to the cakes area, ask anyone to point you to Lindsay, and we'll introduce you to the rest of the group.
DRINKS/FOOD INFO:
You may bring your own food and water bottle. In years past, they have had donation-based canned/bottled drinks on site. I'm unsure what they will have this year.
COST:
$20 for the evening program (see ticket link in comments).
There is also a limited number of discounted all-day passes still available for $45 (at the time of posting this) if you plan to attend more than the evening program.
WHAT TO BRING:
• Comfortable shoes for pavement
• Layers (the dance will be outside)
• Water bottle
• Pre-purchased ticket receipt on your phone
• Cash for drink donations
Tips for the LADIES:
* Dresses are fun for twirling, but pants are cool too :)
* It's best to wear shoes that won't easily slip off
* It's ok (even encouraged) to ask guys to dance :)
* Ladies are always right, so ladies are always on the right when dancing (though you are no way limited to dancing the "lady" role--anyone can dance any role)
Hope you'll join us!

🚗 **Parking info:**
Parking at Vicente Bluffs Reserve is FREE. **More details to come.**
In a world that can feel disconnected, this morning is about **bringing back our sense of community—one conversation, one circle, one fire at a time**.
If you’ve been craving connection…
If you’ve been longing for real conversation…
If you miss gathering in circle—
**Pull up a chair by the fire.**

Time: We skate @ 8:08pm (promptly!) so if you are running a bit behind let us know so we can wait.
Distance: We skate about 10 miles or more through Downtown Los Angeles.
Difficulty: This group isn’t for beginners, but you don’t have to be a pro. We skate in the streets with traffic and go up and down hills often, so if you’re comfortable with those things, then you should be fine.
Always a group of 30+, approaching 50+ during the most active months. (the goal is 200+ people at the anniversary skate in July)
Announcement will be made if we are not skating for any reason, otherwise we are there EVERY week!
Parking - We park at The Geffen at Moca. Its free after 7pm, otherwise it’s ~$7. The entrance is off of Judge John Aiso Street and isn’t easy to see, so dont feel bad if you can’t find it right away. Lots of free street parking nearby after 7pm.

Summer Splash - Malibu Creek State Park (bring an inner tube)
**Bring a flotation device**
Alright meetup people, summer is around the corner so let’s take a dip at the rock pools located at the Malibu Creek State Park. I know summer is not until June 21st, but this is the best title I could come up with for this event. Bring a flotation device like an inner tube, and I will bring a portable pump. We will do a short hike to the rock pools, and then get in the water. In honor of the Olympics 2028, we might even have people race in their inner tubes for the ultimate bragging rights. Also, no dogs allowed at this state park. So sign up for this event, because this will be more exciting than riding the tractor around the farm.
